Following the 2-point conversion, the GMSAA team took the lead and never looked back. Deep in the second quarter, the GMSAA defense continued to show their muscle and pound the NW Florida team. On 3rd and 7 with 3:19 left in the second quarter GMSAA’s #28 [player_tooltip player_id="206566" first="Kaiden" last="Kent"] went up over the top of the intended receiver and intercepted the NW Florida pass. GMSAA proceeded from the NW Florida 45-yard line and gained 25 yards on back-to-back first-down runs by #4 James Chatmon. On the next play, QB CJ Cypher took the score in on a 25-yard TD run. Following the 2-point conversion pass to #3 Madoxx Davis, GMSAA led 16-0. In the second half, the GMSAA team never showed any signs of slowing down. While the team did have a couple of drives stall out along the way, the defense continually shut down NW Florida. Late in the 3rd quarter, GMSAA QB Cypher shot off a series of completed short-yardage passes and then connected with #3 Madoxx Davis for a 38-yard TD pass. After the 2-point conversion reception by Davis, the GMSAA team led 24-0. CJ Cypher cracked the code on the NW Florida defense early and never slowed down. Early in the 4th quarter, Cypher and Maddox again hooked up on four consecutive passes, leading to a 30-yard TD pass from Cypher to Davis with 7:55 left to play in the game. Following a 2-point conversion run by #4 James Chatmon, the GMSAA team led by the final score of 32-0 and punched their ticket to the National Championship. The GMSAA 6th grade team will return to the FBU National Championships as the defending 6th grade National Champions from 2020. GMSAA vs Northwest NW Florida 7th Grade In the FBU Southeast Regional 7th grade Finals, both the GMSAA team and the NW Florida team seemingly struggled throughout the game. However, the GMSAA team was able to push through their struggles at times and put points on the board. GMSAA QB #2 JR Harris would not be denied as he seemingly willed his team to the endzone during the closing moments of the 2nd quarter. With the score still 0-0, Harris got flushed out of the pocket and made something out of nothing with his legs, running for 16 yards to keep the drive alive. On the next play, Harris threw a pass up for #5 Aiden Opore, who went vertical to catch the pass between two defenders for the score. GMSAA led NW Florida 6-0 at the half. Unlike the previous day’s elimination game, NW Florida could not get anything working on the ground or in the air. The day before, NW Florida’s QB #18 Brooks Washington had 4 TD passes over 20-yards each. However, in the FBU Southeastern Reginal Finals, the GMSAA team held Washington to only five pass completions and no TD passes. On this night, the GMSAA defense was swarming and not allowing any NW Florida scoring to happen. Following the halftime break, it did not take long before JR Harris was right back to work. Harris completed another series of passes, and #23 Braylon Williams worked the ground-pounding the ball. After another TD Harris TD pass and a Williams rushing score, the GMSAA team punched their ticket to the FBU National Championships defeating NW Florida 24-0. The GMSAA 7th grade team will return to the FBU National Championships for the first time since the team was in the finals in 2017. GFL vs South Georgia 8th grade In the 8th grade FBU Southeast Regional Finals, the GFL team wasted no time getting things going. Cranking it up in the 1st quarter, the GFL team capitalized on a South Georgia turnover on downs to set up a 49-yard drive to score. Following a couple of Lewis quick passes, #6 Dylan McCoy took it to the house with a 22-yard scoring run. Following the PAT the GFL team led 7-0. Essentially the game was already over. In the second quarter, GFL’s Lewis continued his throwing prowess by literally slashing up the South Georgia defense with each pass. Lewis completed two TD passes in the 2nd quarter. One TD pass of 23-yards to #16 [player_tooltip player_id="212311" first="Tyler" last="Atkinson"] and another TD pass for #99 Deuce Geralds. The GFL team led 21-0 at halftime. GFL QB #10 [player_tooltip player_id="206164" first="Julian" last="Lewis"] went through the air regularly, and with precision accuracy, to his target receivers. After the halftime break, [player_tooltip player_id="206164" first="Julian" last="Lewis"] only played another series for GFL before allowing the backups to come in. But not before ripping off a 51-yard TD pass to #13 Jonathan Stafford on a crossing route. After the PAT, GFL led 28-0. All-in-all, the South Georgia 8th grade team simply could not keep up or handle the GFL team. When South Georgia did get a drive going the team would end up imploding with self-inflicted turnovers or penalties. While the South Georgia team showcased one of the best running backs in the state with #9 Amari Latamir, the team still fell short of sustaining drives all the way to the score. South Georgia’s Amari Latamir finished the game with over 150 yards rushing and had over another 50-yards receiving. In the 4th quarter, GFL sealed the deal with two long drives and the last drive culminating into a score. QB #3 Bryce Green hit #2 Tyriq Green on a slant route for an 18-yard TD pass. After the PAT, the final score was 35-0 with GFL punching their ticket back to the FBU National Championships. The GFL 8th grade team is a four-time and defending FBU 8th grade National Champions.
