I was reminded again on Friday night that prospects packed with potential play throughout all classes of Iowa high school football. I watched Mid-Prairie visit West Liberty in an important 2A District 6 matchup. Student-athletes impressed on both sides of the field during the visitors' 35-21 win.

Miller enjoyed a strong junior season for a 2025 Mid-Prairie outfit that was led by a really good senior class. It caused him to be overshadowed, at times, despite his important contributions to a nine-win campaign. This fall, he's emerged from the shadows as an impactful three-phase performer. Miller shined when watching him in a game at West Liberty midway through the season. The Golden Hawks improved to 5-0 with him logging five receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown, a tackle for loss and a sack and flashing promise as a left-footed place kicker. A projectable frame, physicality and athleticism give Miller a chance to develop as a tight end, defensive lineman/linebacker or specialist at the next level. He's an interesting prospect with upside. He'd be a worthy investment for colleges strong in development.

Crees was the main attraction for me when heading out to scout Mid-Prairie at West Liberty on Friday night. The big kid from West Liberty had been seeing his recruiting tick up this season, and he showed why during this in-person scouting opportunity. First, Crees is every bit of the 6-foot-8 at which he's listed, and his projectable frame comfortably holds the 300 pounds. A club-level basketball player, the Comet junior is light on his feet with excellent bend and mobility. Long arms and a sound base aid him in setting up strong in pass protection. He gets the pads down and drives with his legs in plowing space for the rushing attack. West Liberty uses him at guard when it's looking for a big middle push. Crees easily reaches blocks in space and dishes out damage in the open field when called upon. The arrow is pointing up for this prospect.

Henry helped Mid-Prairie win nine games last season as a sophomore backing up the senior starter at running back. He took advantage of his carries and prepared for a larger role. The development process has worked out well for he and the Golden Hawks if an in-person scout Friday at West Liberty was any indication. Henry carried 19 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns, adding five receptions for 38 yards and a tackle. With good size, speed and athleticism, it makes sense that Henry lines up at running back at this level. That said, there are skills and ability that would allow him to move to another position if a college envisioned him succeeding at a different spot. He's a prospect worthy of more attention on the recruiting trail.

Shield already had impressed us at Prep Redzone before watching him compete in person for West Liberty against visiting Mid-Prairie Friday night. It's why we had him ranked highly in our last Class of 2029 update. Seeing prospects in action always adds another layer to the evaluation process, so I was happy for that opportunity. The sophomore's performance matched what we can see on film. It's a projectable frame capable of adding good weight and strength without the loss of the speed and athleticism that lead him delivering impactful plays already. Shield runs well sideline to sideline on defense and does well flowing with the action. He can cover receivers and support the run. There's also potential of those skills developing at receiver. Special teams' contributions seem like a good bet for the next level.

There are so many good players in this state. It's hard to see them all but rewarding when guys emerge during in-person scouts. That certainly was the case when watching Mid-Prairie play at West Liberty on Friday. Duvall was a difference-maker. The Golden Hawk senior was controlling the action from his left offensive tackle position, helping establish an effective rushing attack against a stingy Comet defense. He's a plow in the running game, bending easily and lowering the pads, controlling the opponent with active hands and driving with the lower body. Duvall is not a lumberer, however, he can reach blocks in space and sets up well in pass protection. The footwork is smooth. I'm not sure of the college interest level Duvall, but, last least publicly, it seems low relative to potential.
