Fresh Tape: Sept. 4-5 MIAA A Highlight Drop

The Sept. 4-5 MIAA A division slate is in the books, and the film is circulating. This drop is a quick pass through five players, each with their highlights ready to go.   MIAA SEPTEMBER 4TH-5TH RESULTS (MIAA TEAMS IN BOLD)   Broadneck - 29 | St. Mary's 27   Bullis - 29 | Gilman - 23   Mount St. Joseph - 35 | St. Mary's Rykien - 13   McDonogh - 35 | Haverford School 25   St. John's College - 21 | Archbishop Spalding - 18    The first play of his highlights shows him patiently waitign for his tackle and guard to pull and hit their targets, thus creating a crease for him to accelerate through virtually untouched for a 47-yard touchdown. A couple of his runs show the same exact type of play and blocking scheme, including one that ends up as a 5-yadr touchdown run. It's worth noting that the also plays safety (but for the sake of this article, I'm focusing on his offensive highlights). Did a great job of finishing runs and lowering his pads to effectively run through contact and gain extra yardage.          While the film isn't long, you do get a decent snapshot of him at both wide receiver and cornerback. Offensively, he operates from the slot, and shows his ability to find a open space against zone coverage and catching a short pass and turning upfield and getting extra yardage due to his explosivness. Defensively, he's lined up at cornerback, and shows twitchiness on one play where he breaks on the receiver and closes ground quickly. giving up no yards after the catch.      Per his X account, Jackson caught eight passes for 130 yards, scored two touchdowns, made two tackles, and had a 90-yard punt return. That's a lot of good work there. His 44-yard touchdown reception shows him catching a short pass on a 5-yard in route, breaking the tackle, and then turning upfield for the remaining 30 yards for the score. The second touchdown catch shows him dragging across the back of the end zone from around 6-7 yards out, wide open, for the touchdown catch. In his first highlight, he intercepts a tipped pass from his safety position and returns it 85 yards for a touchdown. On another play, he comes off his zone area from the cornerback position to hit a receiver coming down the middle of the field. End result: incompletion. Pack has a nice redzone pass breakup on a fade ball into the endzone, dislodging the ball on the last minute. With that play in particular, I'd like to see him not allow a free run and actually jam him or impede his path. In thie first highlight, he's in press coverage, and makes life difficult for the receiver within the first five yards, leading to a pass breakup. In the second highlght, he's lined up at safety, and comes down during a run play and lowers the boom on a runnin back for the tackle. Those two plays alone show that he's versatile, tecnically skilled in coverage, and not afraid to be physical against the run.
