Week 0 featured several under-the-radar defensive players who made their presence felt in the trenches and showed they deserve more attention moving forward. This group displayed physicality, strong instincts and the ability to consistently find the football, with several producing big numbers in their opening performances. From linebackers attacking downhill to defenders creating disruption along the line of scrimmage, these players showed traits that can translate into continued production throughout the season. Strong early performances can help build momentum and put new names on the recruiting radar. Defensively, he played with a high motor and attacked downhill consistently, finishing with 14 total tackles. His ability to diagnose plays and close quickly allowed him to make an impact around the football. Whitaker also contributed on special teams, recording four punts for 121 yards while averaging 30.3 yards per punt and pinning the opponent inside the 20 once. His versatility gives his team an important weapon in different situations. As he continues developing defensively and building on his special teams production, Whitaker has an opportunity to emerge as a small school prospect to watch this season.

Lingley was all over the field in Week 0, showing impressive speed and instincts from his linebacker position. He finished with 19 total tackles and two tackles for loss, consistently finding ways to get involved in the action. Lingley does a good job reading his keys and reacting quickly, allowing him to shoot gaps and meet ball carriers before they can get going. His vision and downhill mentality make him difficult to block when he gets a clean read. This performance provides a strong foundation for the season and Lingley will look to continue using his instincts and speed to produce. If he maintains this level of play, he could quickly become a name on the recruiting radar.

Russo delivered a strong performance as a run stuffing linebacker, consistently finding the football and making his presence felt throughout Week 0. He finished with 18 total tackles and a quarterback hurry, showing a high motor and willingness to pursue plays from sideline to sideline. Russo displayed the ability to shed blocks and finish tackles against ball carriers in space, preventing opposing backs from consistently gaining additional yardage. His impact also extended into the red zone, where he helped keep the offense from finding the end zone. Russo's combination of physicality, effort and instincts gives him a strong foundation to build on. If he continues producing at this level, he will be a defender to watch closely throughout the season.

Lane turned in one of the more disruptive defensive performances of Week 0, creating chaos along the line of scrimmage throughout the game. He finished with 15 total tackles, four tackles for loss and a forced fumble, showcasing his ability to impact plays behind the line. Lane consistently shed blocks and found ways to get to ball carriers, making him difficult to keep out of the action. His tackling ability in space also stood out, as he showed the closing speed to quickly eliminate running lanes and finish plays. The combination of production and physicality makes Lane an intriguing prospect to monitor. If he can maintain this level of disruption throughout the season, he has a chance to draw significant interest from scouts.

Bynum made a strong statement in Week 0 with a physical performance that showed his ability to impact the game from the edge. He finished with 13 total tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. Bynum did a good job setting the edge and limiting running lanes while using his hands and strength to shed blocks. His ability to close space in the open field allowed him to consistently finish tackles and his sack showed that he can create pressure when attacking the quarterback. Bynum's combination of strength, physicality and playmaking ability makes him an intriguing up and coming defender. If he continues producing, he could become a name to know in the 2029 class.
