Top Performances: Playoffs Level Four

We have made it! State Championship Week! We get to find out who the best of the best are for all 7 divisions this Thursday and Friday. Before we get to the elite showdowns, let’s take a look back on Level 4 and see who had standout performances! We truly had the best athletes step up in an attempt to secure a championship berth. Seniors and juniors populate our film breakdown section, along with several other seniors, juniors, and sophomores in the Other Notable Performances section. Each of the 25 athletes below will play at the next level, so college coaches make sure you are familiar with all of them! Reese Osgood, ’22 WR- Franklin Stat Line: 10 Receptions, 120 Yards, 1 TD Reese has been putting together a special senior season and it has gotten the attention of the next level. The 6’1" 180 lbs senior WR’s athletic traits have been well publicized here at Prep Redzone Wisconsin. Watching Reese take those traits and translate them to the field along with the positional traits you look for has been awesome to watch. There’s no question why he has started collecting offers over the last few weeks from the D2 and D1 levels. It doesn’t take long into his Level Four highlights to see those traits shine through as he shows off his ability to make the tough catches in traffic thanks to his strong hands, hand eye coordination, and strong hands. His short area quickness highlighted plays that saw defenders try to jam him at the line, and when Reese got the ball quickly out in space. Check him out here! <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13327660/618f5735bed697095c7abdf9">Reese’s Level Four Highlights</a> [player_tooltip player_id="118383" first="Logan" last="Matthews"], ’22 DB- Franklin Stat Line: 7 Tackles, 2 INTs The 6’2" 180 lbs DB has an excellent frame for the position, and it doesn’t seem to hinder his athleticism. The film is short this week highlighting Logan’s two INTs on the night. The first INT shows Logan covering a deep third and doing a good job of scanning the field and knowing where every receiver is at that may enter his zone. At the same time he does a great job of reading the QB and using his length to get his hand on the ball then corralling it for the pick. The second pick comes with Matthews in one on one coverage highlighting Logan’s fluid hips allowing him to turn and run with the receiver throughout the route. At the catch point he does a good job of getting inside leverage and becoming the receiver. Check out the plays and his other film here! <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13021382/618f5bb05caa7a0a6c127ccc">Logan’s Level Four Highlights</a> Cortez LeGrant Jr., ’23 RB- Sun Prairie Stat Line: 31 Carries, 190 Yards, 4 TDs Cortez is no stranger to the top performers, but what is a little new is the workload. Those 31 carries are the most in a single game this season for Cortez. Safe to say he was fine with the load as he tied his season high with 4 TDs, and put together his second most rushing yards in a game this season. What also is new this week is how much LeGrant attacked successfully between the tackles. He did well in that area finding the small slivers to run through and accelerating through them. That acceleration into his long speed is arguably Cortez’s best trait on the field. Once he hits that top gear good luck catching him and his 4.4 40 speed. It was a very gritty performance from one of the most electric players in the state. Check it all out here! <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12939030/618f678034530605d80f3c2f">Cortez’s Level Four Highlights</a> AJ Pepin, ’22 RB- Hartford Stat Line: 34 Carries, 220 Yards, 2 TD The 6’ 180 lbs senior has been the motor that moves the Hartford offense all season. Pepin has the skill set to handle that massive workload, and needs to be on the radar of more college coaches because of it. AJ has a strong blend of power and athleticism. He can consistently pick up the tough yards between the tackles, and is always moving the pile and requiring multiple defenders to bring him down. Then when he breaks loose in the open field AJ is a long strider that is able to cover ground deceptively fast. He is able to find so much success inside and outside because of his instincts and vision with the ball in his hands. He has a knack for knowing where the blocks, and lanes, and green grass is. Check it out! <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/5678691/6192d7775b3e850a6c3cd104">AJ’s Level Four Highlights</a> Cole Fenske, ’22 QB/ATH- Rice Lake Stat Line: 4/6, 56 Yards, 26 Carries, 156 Yards, 3 TDs, 4 Tackles The 5’11" 180 lbs senior plays QB for Rice Lake, but he has the instincts, and playmaking abilities of an RB. Cole’s short area quickness allows him to excel in the option game where he needs to make quick decisions, and then accelerate past his read man. I really like his decisiveness too. When you have the ball in your hands on every snap you can’t be second guessing yourself. You don’t see that with Cole’s play. He plays more off reaction to what he sees instead of trying to think through the play. Fenske also has the long speed to turn all those mental and short area traits into big plays once he gets himself into the open field. The ATH could potentially be used in several different ways at the next level. Check him out! He’s currently an under recruited senior, and preparing to put on a show at Camp Randall. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11432753/619276e334530605d81121c8">Cole’s Level Four Highlights</a> [player_tooltip player_id="209816" first="Elliott" last="Nolin"], ’22 DB- Rice Lake Stat Line: 7 Tackles, 1 INT The 6’ 175 lbs senior is a well rounded DB prospect. You can trust to have him out there on all three downs, on obvious passing situations, and on obvious running situations. Against the run, Elliott is a reliable tackler who does a good job of quickly finding the best way to bring down a ball carrier. Nolin has no hesitation between reading run and flying downhill to fill. That’s the aggressiveness you need out on the edge. Against the pass, Nolin has been one of the most productive DBs in the state this season. His fluid hips and change of direction allow him to cover man to man, and he has the range to be able to effectively play zone as well. Check out the senior! He is still looking for his future home! <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11432920/61901ea83df541031c12fbc9">Elliott’s Level Four Highlights</a> Nathan Schroeder, ’22 DB- Pewaukee Stat Line: 10 Tackles, 2 INTs The 5’11" 175 lbs DB made plays at every level of the defense last Friday! He showed off his range going from one hash to the outside the opposite hash to haul in one of his INTs. Nathan was able to read pass, which didn’t happen often, and quickly pick up his receiver going across the field, undercut the route, and pick off the pass. Against the run is where Schroeder was most needed against the run heavy Monroe offense. He did an impressive job of working through the trash, making linemen miss on their block attempts, and being a sound tackler. Take a look through for yourself and watch how he uses his lateral agility to easily avoid the blocks and then get right back on the path to stopping the ball carrier. Pewaukee is going to need a similar performance out of him against another run heavy offense in Rice Lake. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11289440/619287bc6e8bf704b8f10d8a">Nathan’s Level Four Highlights</a> [player_tooltip player_id="31399" first="Jackson" last="Flottmeyer"], ’23 QB- Aquinas Stat Line: 13/21, 234 Yards, 5 Carries, 12 Yards, 2 TDs I can’t wait to get my eyes on the 6’5" 210 lbs junior signal caller for a second time this season up in Madison. Jackson has spent the season putting himself in the argument for QB1 in the Class of 2023 here in Wisconsin. He has the elite size for the position, and it comes with the athleticism to make himself dangerous inside and outside the pocket. This week’s film is some impressive stuff. It does a great job of highlighting his ability to make throws while on the run, while under pressure, and while off his back foot. Jackson has the arm talent to deliver the ball with velocity or with touch in all those situations. He has spot on accuracy to every level of the field, and does a great job reading how the defender is playing his target and understanding if he needs to use power or touch to hit the spot he needs to hit. Add in that he has the sub 5.0 40 speed and doesn’t hesitate to take off on the ground, and you get a QB that forces defenses to truly have to cover every inch of the field when he is on it. <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13003376/6190c0983df541031c136056">Jackson’s Level Four Highlights</a> [player_tooltip player_id="118556" first="Isaac" last="Hyland"], ’22 ATH- Saint Mary’s Springs Stat Line: 19 Carries, 167 Yards, 3 TDs, 12 Tackles A few weeks ago, Isaac made the top performers for his offensive efforts. Last week he made it for his defensive play. This week he put it all together and dominated on both sides of the ball, and we have film from both sides of the ball to check out! On defense, the 5’11" 175 lbs ATH showed off his ability to go from his safety position to the center of the mess in the trenches as he brought down ball carriers. His reliable tackling makes him perfect to be the last line of defense. On offense, Hyland continued his tough running, but this week there are several plays highlighting his patience as a runner. He allowed blocks to set up instead of trying to make his own hole. That allowed him to make several more big plays. Coaches don’t miss out on this senior. He can help in several ways. I can’t wait to see him live in Madison! <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11799779/619008705caa7a0a6c130fc8">Isaac’s Level Four Highlights</a> Will Bieber, ’23 RB/DB- Coleman Stat Line: 10 Carries, 54 Yards, 1 TD, 1, Reception, 33 Yards, 15 Tackles In Coleman’s toughest matchup of the season Will Bieber stepped up in a huge way on both sides of the ball. The 6’ 165 lbs junior made plays at DB, RB, and WR on the way to the 26-20 victory sealing a trip to Madison. As a ball carrier, Will has the speed to threaten a defense when he breaks contain. Coleman used that speed to attack the edges of the Regis defense with success. Bieber’s ability to read his blocks before turning to his speed allowed him to consistently maximize each play. His vision and speed were key to his ground game. On defense, Will used that speed to have the range needed to go from 8-10 yards deep to the line of scrimmage before the RBs could resulting in Will making a ton of tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage. I was really impressed with Will’s closing speed and how he translated it into his hit power and bigger hits than you might expect.
