Cardinal Gibbons v. Heritage Offensive Highlights

I was on the sidelines for the second round playoff game between Cardinal Gibbons HS and Heritage HS.  The players listed performances were impressive throughout the game: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="144696" first="Blake" last="Raphael"], WR, 6’0" 195, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Blake ran good pass routes and separation from defenders to make catches.  He displayed good hands on the catches made in traffic.  [player_tooltip player_id="144696" first="Blake" last="Raphael"] is a dual offensive threat on short-range pass receptions and long-ball receptions. <strong>Ian Evans, WR, 6’0" 180, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Ian ran good pass routes and quick cuts to separate from defenders to make catches.  He displayed speed and quickness to gain yardage after making the catch. <strong>Maverick Shotwell, WR, 6’1" 178, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Maverick ran good pass routes and quickly separated from defenders to make catches.  He accelerated past defenders after the catch to gain additional yardage.  Maverick was difficult to defend in man coverage.  Maverick Shotwell had 4 receptions for 135 yards. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="117098" first="Connor" last="Clark"], QB, 6’6" 220, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Connor displayed calmness and leadership while directing the offensive unit.  He has a quick release on his throwing motion.  Connor displayed good arm strength on the short-range and long-ball throws.  The passes were delivered on target with accuracy in the pocket and on the run.  He tucked it and ran when needed to gain yardage.  [player_tooltip player_id="117098" first="Connor" last="Clark"] completed 16 of 24 passes for 265 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 interceptions. <strong>Donovan Shepard, RB, 5’9" 165, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Donovan displayed patience while following blockers to gain tough yardage while running inside.  He displayed good hands and speed on a pass play leading to a TD.  Donovan displayed the speed to get outside and accelerate past defenders to gain yardage.  He plays at a high-energy level throughout the game.  Donovan Shepard had 18 carries for 140 yards and 1 TD. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="142223" first="Ryan" last="Ziegler"], FB, 6’0" 225, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Ryan displayed good balance while running with power on the goal-line plays.  He displayed good vision and strength while running into the end zone after initial contact was made.  [player_tooltip player_id="142223" first="Ryan" last="Ziegler"] had 4 carries for 17 yards and 2 TDs. <strong>Joshua Stoneking, DT, 6’3" 227, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Joshua was used on offense during a series of goal-line plays.  He ran with power while following blockers into the end zone.  Joshua Stoneking had 6 carries for 17 yards and 2 TDs. <strong>Thomas Garofolo, T, 6’3" 210, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Thomas displayed good footwork and technique while controlling defenders.  He displayed quickness out of his stance to make contact with defenders while opening lanes for the running backs.  The offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the game. <strong>Watt Brown, T, 6’4" 245, Cardinal Gibbons HS</strong>.  Watt displayed good footwork and technique while controlling defenders.  He displayed quickness out of his stance and used leverage against defenders while opening lanes for the running backs.  The offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the game. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="154603" first="Lex" last="Thomas"], QB, 6’0" 180, Heritage HS</strong>.  Lex displayed a quick release on his passes early in the game.  He displayed good speed when he tucked it and ran into the end zone for a score.  The NC State commit took some physical hits throughout the game.  [player_tooltip player_id="154603" first="Lex" last="Thomas"] was under constant pressure throughout the game, resulting in being tackled for losses and hurried pass attempts. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28658" first="William" last="Hawkins IV"], WR, 6,4" 205, Heritage HS</strong>.  William ran precision pass routes and quickly separated from defenders to make catches.  He used his body to shield defenders to make catches in traffic.  William accelerated past defenders in the open field on a couple of plays where the ball was underthrown.  It would have been good to have seen passes thrown to William after he accelerated past defenders running alone in the open field on several plays.  William Hawkins does not go down after initial contact is made after the catch.  The sure-handed wide receiver was difficult to defend in man-coverage. <strong>Tavares Carter, WR, 6’3" 170, Heritage HS</strong>.  Tavares ran good pass routes and separated from defenders to make catches.  He displayed the ability to make the defender miss and gain big yardage after the catch.  Tavares Carter is tough to defend in man-coverage. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="97529" first="Lee" last="Hall"], C, 6’0" 285, Heritage HS</strong>.  Lee displayed good footwork and technique while controlling defenders.  He displayed quickness and strength while opening lanes for the running backs.  [player_tooltip player_id="97529" first="Lee" last="Hall"] is the anchor of the offensive line. <strong>Carter Alls, T, 6’5" 310, Heritage HS</strong>.  Carter displayed good footwork and technique while controlling defenders.  He used his size and quickness while opening lanes for the running backs.
