As we roll into August I wanted to continue showcasing players from each of the returning classes on the weekends to ensure we cover as many ballers as possible before the regular season hits.'

The guys I intend to target for these showcase opportunities are not just the best players, but the guys who have put in the off-season work and are making quantum leaps in development and improvement.

In this report we are taking a look at a couple of sophomores, one junior and a pair of seniors who have had busy off-seasons taking their game to the next level.

So, without further adieu, let's see what these guys have been up to this summer:

[player_tooltip player_id='2127994' first='Angel' last='Gonzalez'] , 5'9, 175, RB/DB/ATH, Stanton County, '29, up first for the talented class of '29 is a baller who caught my eye last fall with his eye-popping freshman stats (#2 in the state among freshmen with 9 TDs; rushed for 584 yards, on 81 carries, averaging 7+ per and scored 4 TDs; caught four passes for 100 yards, averaging 25 per and added two TDs; 358 yards in returns, including two kick and one punt return scores and averaged a state-leading 32+ per kick return. On defense he was a ballhawk defender coming out of the secondary to make 48T, 3 TFL and had 3 picks - all in 8 games...). After football he went right into basketball and then this spring helped his relay teams win 2A Regionals in the 4x1 and 4x4. This summer he hit the Oklahoma State camp as well as team camp at Emporia State. He is a smooth, athletic burner who moves well in space and has the overall speed to break the long one. This guy is going to torch the turf this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='2137827' first='Owen' last='Primavera'], 6'3, 185, WR/ATH, Olathe NW, '29, up next is another sophomore playmaker who made the transition to the varsity game last fall and showed glimpses of great things to come along the way. With ideal size, length and athleticism, he has the burst and acceleration to blister DBs on the long ball or use his catch radius to high-point redzone passes. He also runs precise routes with good footwork and is fearless going over the middle to make the contested catch. Once football was over he shifted gears to off-season training and his work is paying off as he is bigger, taller and faster than he was a year ago. This summer he has focused on some of the key fundamentals of wide receiver play, including getting off to an explosive start creating separation, timing and body control working through traffic. He also got in quite a bit of 7v7 play to continue to hone his skills. Get this guy on your watchlists as he is a baller.

Jacksen Dasilva, 5'9, 175, RB/LB/LS, Jefferson West, '28, representing the juniors in this report is a young playmaker who has flown under the radar somewhat but after a solid sophomore year coupled with a strong off-season he is ready to shine this fall. On offense he is a quick and elusive running back with a low center of gravity who is hard to bring down in the open field. He should be an ideal fit with the loaded Jefferson West offense, which appears to be very strong through the air and on the ground this fall. On defense he can play either linebacker or defensive back and played an aggressive game last fall making 41 tackles and had a pair of tackles for loss. He has a nose for the ball with great instincts and anticipation and has the lateral burst to shut down backs trying to hit the perimeter. His off-season has been busy, working with Ryan Koontz and Mammoth, playing 7v7 with Top City and hit a number of camps earlier in the summer. This guy is ready to take it to the next level this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='635158' first='Reed' last='Mcdiffett'] , 6'1, 175, WR, Wamego, '27, up first up for the seniors is a dangerous wide receiver who is coming off an outstanding junior year for the Indians, catching 54 passes for 620 yards and scoring six touchdowns. A versatile, experienced wideout, with a high-IQ approach, he is adept at finding open areas in zone coverage as well as utilizing good technique, athleticism and leverage to create early separation and beat man coverage. Additionally, he has developed a close rapport with All-State QB [player_tooltip player_id='1113129' first='Logan' last='Fulton'] to form one of the most lethal connections in the state this fall. He has continued playing 7v7 this summer as well as showcasing his game at individual and team camps and training with teammates to be ready for pre-season play. This guy was just getting warmed up last fall and with a goal to double his production this fall he is ready to air it out.

[player_tooltip player_id='1604520' first='Josiah' last='Pattangall'] , 5'9, 185, RB/LB, Decatur County (Oberlin), '27, and last but certainly not least is a senior two-way baller coming off an outstanding junior season on both sides of the ball. On defense he was a ball-buster linebacker with excellent read and react skills who piled up 70+ tackles and had an interception. He flies to the ball playing sideline to sideline and delivers brutal open-field tackles. And, as good as he was on defense, he was even better on offense carrying the ball 215 times for 1,400+ rushing yards, to bring his career total up to 3,183 yards, averaged seven yards a carry and had an impressive 19 TDs. Along the way he picked up numerous honors, including first-team all-state designation from numerous publications. As a runner he has the spatial awareness and patience to let gaps develop before using his next-level burst to get in the open field. This guy is ready for a big-time senior encore performance.

In conclusion, get out and see these guys in action this fall – you will not be disappointed.

And, as usual…

Keep grindin'
