Big stakes elevate play, and we’ll continue to see it happen this weekend as regional playoffs begin. Last weekends district final games were exciting, with some big divisional rivalries getting reignited for the post-season.
Some big time prospects are still alive for the first round of regionals. Let’s take a look at five players that could be key factors in their teams games this weekend.
Amare Snowden Amare Snowden 6'4" | 190 lbs | DB Roseville | 2023 State MI
The top rated 2023 defensive back is rangey, with some really intriguing size to his frame. The Roseville defender has long arms that can irritate a receiver even when he gets seperation, which adds another element to his game in pass coverage. He has the speed to track down ball carriers as well as shadow receivers in man coverage. On offense, Snowden shows some of his athletic ability with his route running and catch radius. 13 offers have been extended to Snowden so far, with Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and West Virginia included. Roseville has a big matchup with De La Salle on Saturday.

Nolan Ray Nolan Ray 6'0" | 195 lbs | RB Brother Rice | 2023 State MI
Rushing for three touchdown’s in Brother Rice’s district final vs. Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s, Ray is rolling into this weekend’s matchup with Mason. The 2023 playmaker is going to be ranked next month in the rankings update, and he currently holds offers from Boston College, Central Michigan, Marshall, and Maryland. Ray has good vision and has the ability to create on his own when things break down.

Joshua Burnham Joshua Burnham 6'3" | 205 lbs | LB Traverse City Central | 2022 State MI
Based on the stats below, you can make a safe assumption that Burnham has been a dominant player this season. The film backs up the hype, as well, as the senior linebacker has been as dominant a player as there is in the state this season. Burnham does a nice job of flowing to the football and getting after the ball carrier. The quickness in his stack and shed is far above what it should be at his age, and he’s just getting better every season. The Irish will be getting a high instinct, high motor linebacker in Burnham. Traverse City Central will have a matchup with Caledonia on Friday.

Myles Rowser Myles Rowser 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Belleville | 2022 State MI
Another one of the dominant defensive players in the state is Rowser, who has put together an impressive senior season at Belleville. He’s a versatile safety who can cover well in zone or man and come up and deliver a big hit at the line of scrimmage. He has impressive closing quickness and good instincts when in coverage. He can tackle well and shows good form breaking down and not arm tackling. Arkansas is getting a good one, as Rowser is currently ranked as the 3rd best player in the state.

Johnathan Slack Johnathan Slack 6'3" | 260 lbs | OL Detroit King | 2023 State MIBoth Detroit King QB Dante Moore Dante Moore 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Detroit King | 2023 State MI and Slack have been on fire in the 2021 season. Slack is a nasty, physical bruiser who can tire out defensive lineman throughout a game. He has a strong anchor and utilizes his hands without holding. With 18 offers, the junior will have a lot to consider after his playoff run is complete.
