From Potential to Production: 2028 Kentucky Defenders

We're heading over to the 2028 class today, checking out the defensive side of the ball and a group of talented recruits who have started to turn the corner on their development.    Frost is a dynamic athlete with elite range and the ability to cover a lot of ground. He shows good instincts and reacts quickly to what he sees, allowing him to put himself in a position to make plays. He can flip his hips and run without much trouble, which is an important trait when matching up in space or carrying routes downfield. He's also looked good in 7-on-7s, where his athleticism and coverage ability have stood out. He should be set up for a much larger role this fall, and the combination of range, instincts, and movement skills makes him a player to watch.     Baker is a good defensive lineman who started to flash last season and showed signs of taking the next step. He has good body control, and his wrestling background clearly comes through in the way he uses leverage and works through contact. He does a nice job staying balanced while fighting off blocks and finding his way to the football. The physical tools are there, and the game seems to be slowing down for him. Year three feels like the point where everything could start coming together.     Beavin got some varsity work last fall and showed some encouraging flashes. He has started to come along physically, and the added development is beginning to show on the field. He can come off the edge and create pressure while also showing the ability to get off blocks and play the run effectively. He has decent speed for the position and moves well enough to make plays outside the tackle box. The tools are there, and another offseason of development could go a long way for him.     Fugate is an intriguing defensive back who seems to be around the football more often than not. He's a smart player with good instincts, and those traits consistently put him in a position to make plays. He shows good closing speed when driving on the ball and does a nice job coming to balance in the open field, allowing him to finish tackles instead of flying past the play. He plays under control and trusts what he sees. Not every defensive back wins with elite measurables. Sometimes it's the guys who diagnose things quickly and rarely make mistakes, and Fugate fits that mold.     Hale has a good build for a linebacker and has started to turn the corner in his development. He plays with strong hands and can make an impact against the run by taking on blocks and working his way to the football. He does a nice job getting off blockers and rarely misses tackles once he gets his hands on a ball carrier. There's a reliability to his game that stands out, as he consistently handles his responsibilities and puts himself in a position to make plays. Coaches always value players they can trust, and Hale is starting to look like one of those guys.
