Every Sunday, we take a look at some of the best individual performances from across the state. Last week, we had so many running backs have showcase games that we had a whole separate report on their performances. This week, it’s back to the general post looking at players on both sides of the ball and those special athletes who dominated on both sides of the ball to help their teams in week eight.
Collin Matteson Collin Matteson 6'0" | 180 lbs | WR Oklahoma Christian School | 2022 State OK – 2022 Athlete – Oklahoma Christian School
Once again, OCS’ Collin Matteson Collin Matteson 6'0" | 180 lbs | WR Oklahoma Christian School | 2022 State OK finds himself on this list of Top Performers after doing a little bit of everything for the undefeated Saints in a victory. He was on the Top Performer list last week and he finds himself here again after contributing in just about every aspect of their victory. He finished with 12 carries for 133 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also caught two passes for over 100 yards and both of those catches were touchdowns. Then on defense, he finished with nine tackles and as if that wasn’t enough, he also had over 50 yards in the kick return game.
Karston Keene Karston Keene 5'10" | 160 lbs | DB Mustang | 2022 State OK – 2022 Defensive Back – Mustang
In one of the biggest results of week eight, Mustang went on the road and knocked off #3 Owasso. The Broncos took that #3 ranking from the Rams when the rankings were updated on Saturday. It was a huge win and a big reason they were able to stun the Rams was the turnover battle. Owasso could not stop throwing interceptions and benefitting from that most was senior defensive back Karston Keene Karston Keene 5'10" | 160 lbs | DB Mustang | 2022 State OK . The senior Bronco finished with four interceptions on the night. One of those interceptions he took back for a touchdown. He also forced a fumble and finished with seven tackles in the statement-making victory.
Macuric Demry Macuric Demry 5'10" | ATH Will Rogers | 2022 State OK – 2022 Athlete – Will Rogers
Will Rogers senior quarterback Macuric Demry Macuric Demry 5'10" | ATH Will Rogers | 2022 State OK is arguably the most underrated player in Oklahoma this year. That phrase gets used a lot but because he’s at a program in Will Rogers that has historically struggled, and they might JUST miss out on the playoffs again this year, the Ropers get overlooked. They shouldn’t. And Demry is worth the price of admission to check them out. In a win over Durant, Demry threw three touchdowns and also ran for three more touchdowns. He finished with an interception on defense as well. Demry has been a special talent this year and deserves more recognition.
Maurion Horn Maurion Horn 5'11" | RB Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK – 2022 Running Back – Broken Arrow
For the second straight week, Broken Arrow star running back Maurion Horn Maurion Horn 5'11" | RB Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK went over 200 yards and helped carry the Tigers to a win. This time, it was a massive win that could lock up a home game in the first round of the playoffs as they knocked off Edmond Santa Fe in the final minute on Friday night. The Texas Tech commit finished with 215 yards on 29 carries and three touchdowns in the win. The final touchdown came with 1:07 left and put Broken Arrow up for good. Edmond Santa Fe would turn it over on their next possession and the Tigers have all but locked up a home game in the first round.
Max Brown Max Brown 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Lincoln Christian | 2022 State OK – 2022 Quarterback – Lincoln Christian
It seemed like during the first month of the season, Lincoln Christian senior quarterback Max Brown Max Brown 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Lincoln Christian | 2022 State OK was on this feature every single week. We couldn’t deny the numbers that he was putting up and it’s only continued since. The Bulldogs are undefeated and have barely been tested in the last month of the season. In their blowout win in week eight, Brown was at it again. He threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns on 11-14 passing. He also added 71 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He’s certainly on the short list for Player Of The Year and has a great shot to not only win that award, but take his team to the state title.
Nick Moore Nick Moore 6'0" | RB Harrah | 2022 OK – 2022 Running Back – Harrah
Similar to Maurion Horn Maurion Horn 5'11" | RB Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK at Broken Arrow, Harrah senior running back Nick Moore Nick Moore 6'0" | RB Harrah | 2022 OK finds himself on this feature for the second straight week. And for the second straight week, he’s put up some monster numbers. In their win over Tecumseh, the Harrah senior ran for 327 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. The workhorse back has been a star for the Panthers in the last few weeks and he’s a big reason why they’ve all but locked up a playoff spot. In his last two games, Moore has run for 587 yards and five touchdowns. Not bad with the playoffs right around the corner.
Red Martel Red Martel 5'11" | 195 lbs | RB Beggs | 2024 State OK – 2024 Running Back – Beggs
Beggs has arguably the best 1-2 punch of running backs with senior CJ Brown CJ Brown 6'1" | RB Beggs | 2022 State OK and sophomore Red Martel Red Martel 5'11" | 195 lbs | RB Beggs | 2024 State OK . In another blowout victory, it was the sophomore who put up monster numbers. The two running backs have a chance to both finish with over 1,500 yards and honestly, they might both flirt with 2,000 yards each on the season. Especially at the rate they’re going right now. In the latest blowout, Martel finished with 252 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. It seems crazy to think but those massive numbers might be reached by not one, but both star running backs.
