Megonnell is a prospect just packed with potential. College programs are beginning to take notice of the unusual athleticism present in a projectable 6-foot-7, 260-pound frame. The upside here is tremendous. Iowa State recognized it when it offered a scholarship after he camped with the Cyclones in early June. Kansas State followed suit at the end of July, and Connecticut jumped in late last month. Iowa played host to him on a game-day visit this past Saturday when the Hawkeyes took on Iowa State in the annual Cy-Hawk contest. Megonnell is long limbed with arms that aid him in pass protection and footwork that also helps him in that endeavor. It will be interesting to see where his recruitment heads from here as he adds more film for coaches to view.
A tall, long prospect with overwhelming size, Megonnell has a ton of room to fill out his large frame, but he already used it fairly effectively in limited snaps for Centennial last season. Able to just flat-out plow defensive linemen over at the line of scrimmage in the run, there was little-to-nothing opposing DL could do once the monstruos Megonnell got his hands on them. In the passing game, his size and frame allows him to keep defensive players in front of him, and his length keeps them at bay from his quarterback.
It’s smart of Iowa State to get in early on a prospect like Megonnell, who has a chance to have his recruitment blow up this summer and fall.
