Wood flashed throughout his sophomore year on defense but has taken over as a ball carrier for Show Low this season. Through 6 games, he has 1,036 yards and 14 touchdowns on 85 carries. He’s a violent runner that breaks tackles with great leverage and contact balance. He maintains good leg drive and shows good open field speed to finish long runs in the endzone. In addition to his offensive stats, he has 64 tackles, 13 TFL, and an interception on defense.
Wood gave a glimpse of what’s to come this season by being a two way playmaker in the 35-6 win over Florence. He took 15 carries for 190 yards and three touchdowns at RB and then added 15 total tackles, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble on the defensive side.
Wood was listed earlier on the site as one of the top returning 3A tacklers after racking up 107 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, and 7 forced fumbles. 5’11” 170 lbs. he’s an attacking LB that brings heavy force at the contact point and has a knack for creating turnovers. Diagnoses run concepts quickly and triggers without hesitation, inserting into gaps to disrupt plays before they can develop evident by his 20 tackles for loss on the season. Does a good job staying square and maintaining leverage to the ball carrier and is a violent tackler running his feet through contact. Expect another highly productive season as a junior and to be one of 3A’s leading tacklers over the next two years.
