Fenwick high school’s 2022 class is loaded with talent and features multiple division one prospects. One name to keep an eye on is 6’3, 210 tight end Max Reese Max Reese 6'3" | 215 lbs | WR Fenwick | 2022 State IL ; A two-sport standout that burst onto the scene as a sophomore. Reese primarily worked out of the slot last fall and was a mismatch nightmare for linebackers. He’s an intelligent route runner and does most of his damage after the catch. He is phenomenal at tracking the football in the air and has the speed to run under deep balls. Reese was Fenwick’s go-to target in the red zone and always seemed to find pay dirt. He has soft hands for a big guy and can secure catches in traffic. Reese has the ability as a route runner to run short, intermediate, and vertical routes, which is hard to find in a tight end. From a production standpoint, the kid put up huge numbers for a tight end going for 797 yards and six touchdowns in 2019. Reese is one of Illinois’ best tight ends in the 2022 class & we caught up with him below!
In-Depth
What have you been doing to prepare during COVID-19?
“Covid-19 has been a blessing in disguise for me. Obviously, it’s awful, many people are getting sick and losing their lives, but for me personally, it’s given me a lot of time at home to work out and focus on my skills. I’m working on strength training, speed and agility to improve my 40 time.”
How did last season go for you individually?
“Last season went well for me personally. Last year in football, I had 47 receptions for 797 yards and six touchdowns. I was named 1st team all-conference as a sophomore. This year I’m bigger, faster, and stronger. I and have no doubt those stats will improve.”
How did Last Season go for your team?
“As a team, we didn’t win state, so to us, that’s a disappointment, but we had an alright season. We lost a few close games, and we could have done a better job closing them out for the win. We have a young team and the future is bright. We have ten returning starters on offense. Although it didn’t end the way my team and I wanted it to, we’ll be back stronger next year.”
What are you most looking forward to for the 2020 season?
“What I’m looking forward to the most in the 2020 season is leaving it all on the field with my brothers and winning state!”
What goals do you have for the 2020 season?
“Win a state championship. I have a few of my personal goals for 2020; 1,000 receiving yards,all-state, a standout to college coaches. I think they will like me as a total package once they get to know me.”
How’s your team looking for 2020?
“We are looking really nice! With ten returning starters on offense – 7 of which are sophomores, including me. We are going to have the scariest receiving core in Illinois! We lost a lot of key players on defense, but we expect to have a lot of guys that can fill in and be just as good if not better.”
Is there any of your teammates we should watch for?
“Yes, sir! Watch out for our quarterback Kaden Cobb Kaden Cobb 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Fenwick | 2022 State IL who has an offer from NIU with more to come. Also, our receivers crew Eian Pugh Eian Pugh 6'3" | 170 lbs | WR Fenwick | 2022 State IL , Bryan Hunt and Jonas Capek. We also have a fast running back Danny Kent and the top sophomore lineman in the state, Jimmy Liston Jimmy Liston 6'4" | 310 lbs | OL Fenwick | 2022 State IL and Rasheed Anderson. Also, look out for my little brother Garrett Reese (2025) he’s in 7th grade and will be a star.”
What schools are currently recruiting you?
“I’ve talked to a few schools (Notre Dame and Ball State) but currently I’m still working trying to make myself known.”
Do you have any offers?
“I don’t have any offers yet, but my work will pay off.”
Have you taken any visits?
“I have only taken one unofficial visit to Notre Dame. I missed a couple of opportunities due to basketball. All visits are on hold because of Covid-19, but hopefully, we can get back at it.”
What’s something interesting we should know about you?
“I have always loved sports. Everything about sports, but outside of the players and teams, I love the stats in sports. That tells the real story of the player. The stats don’t lie. It’s not always about the flashy moves but who’s making plays.”
