No, that came three weeks ago against Darlington for the Myrtle Beach sophomore. But this one wasn’t against an inferior opponent who likely doesn’t win a game all year.
The Seahawk running back’s 160 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and another 47 yards receiving helped Myrtle Beach make quick work of Hartsville in a 47-14 victory. For Washington, the 5-foot-9, 160-pound back, it was an effort that flipped much of what everyone expected in this one – as Hartsville tailbacks J’Shawn Anderson J’Shawn Anderson 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB Hartsville | 2023 State SC and Carmello McDaniel Carmello McDaniel 5'8" | 175 lbs | RB Hartsville | 2024 State SC came into the game with much higher expectations.
The Myrtle Beach defense limited Anderson to 69 yards and a touchdown and McDaniel to 38 yards and a score. Anderson’s came in the opening quarter, while McDaniel’s came in the closing moments of the game.
In between, Myrtle Beach scored 40 points and romped.
Other notables:
Senior receiver Adam Randall Adam Randall 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC didn’t get into the end zone through the air – he had a would-be touchdown graze off his finger tips in the second quarter. But he did pump in a rushing touchdown out of a wildcat formation from 22 yards out, had a second called back because of an offensive penalty and nearly had another but was stopped 1-yard shy.
The Clemson commitment, in his more traditional role, caught eight passes for 84 yards to go along with his 75 rushing yards.
Appalachian State commit and Myrtle Beach quarterback Ryan Burger Ryan Burger 6'3" | 175 lbs | QB Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC , who still only has one turnover this season, completed 18-of-22 attempts for 221 yards and a touchdown while running for another 55 yards and a touchdown.
Myrtle Beach’s defensive line trio of Shamir Harrison, Tre Phillips Tre Phillips 6'4" | 220 lbs | DL Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC and Dalton Epps each recorded a sack.
Back-up running back Tyron Miles rushed for 37 yards and two touchdowns – on just two carries.
Jake Doty made what may have been the best play of his young career with a 35-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. On the play, the junior floated up the home sideline, hung in the air for the pass from Burger, pivoted, managed to somehow stay in bounds and walked in the remaining few yards for the score.
It was his fourth touchdown reception of the season.
