On the opening snap, Jailon immediately sets the tone with a big-time hit that lets everyone know he’s there to play physical football. He reads the play quickly, triggers downhill without hesitation, and meets the ball carrier right in the hole with force. It’s not a glancing blow either he squares up, brings his pads through contact, and finishes through the runner instead of just making a stop.
That first-play impact says a lot about his mentality. He’s not easing into the game or feeling things out he’s attacking from the jump. When a linebacker sets that tone early, it changes how offenses approach the middle of the field, and Jailon shows he’s willing to bring that kind of energy right away.
Jailon plays linebacker with urgency and a clear understanding of where the football is going. On film, he shows quick recognition skills and triggers downhill as soon as he diagnoses run action. He does a good job taking proper angles to the ball and staying square when working through traffic. He competes hard at contact, fights off blockers, and consistently looks to finish plays. His effort shows up in pursuit as he chases plays outside his frame and stays involved snap after snap.
Hicks delivered one of the most productive defensive performances of the entire round. In a 35-6 win over Midlothian, he racked up 17 tackles, an interception and a sack while flying around the field. Hicks plays with aggression and confidence, attacking downhill with speed and striking power. He shows strong instincts, reading blocking schemes quickly and locating the football with ease. His ability to rush the passer under control and still arrive with force separates him from many linebackers in his class. Hicks is a 2026 prospect college programs need to evaluate closely.
