Perry threw for at least 200 yards in every game last season, navigating a difficult conference slate to put up great numbers. He’s at his best on the run, and though he has the ability to scramble, his best work is when he keeps his eyes downfield and delivers with accuracy from outside the pocket. He’s a true dual threat with nearly 500 rushing yards as a junior, and he’s accurate, even under pressure. He’s a guy who should continue to develop patience in the pocket, and as he grows that part of his game, he should be able to become even more consistent.
Perry had a magnificent year as a junior and quietly led the county in passing yards, despite playing just 10 games. An improved defense and some better luck (Knightdale was 1-4 in one-score games) would bring Perry to the forefront of the conversation, as the dual-threat is an electric playmaker who doesn’t get enough recognition.
Throwing for nearly 2700 yards and 28 touchdowns was impressive enough by itself for Jamel, but when you add on rushing for nearly 500 yards and 9 touchdowns, you have one of the more productive quarterbacks overall in the state of North Carolina. As a passer, Jamel has some nice touch on the deep ball and can place it where only his receivers make a play on it on a consistent basis. Jamel also shows the ability to make accurate throws out of the pocket for big gains as well, with nice velocity on the ball. I think Jamel’s arm strength is pretty good overall, he was able to hit all areas of the field throwing the ball consistently. Jamel does have one offer from Elizabeth City State, and I think he’s going to be a guy to keep an eye on during the upcoming camp season.
