When two of the top private programs in Florida meet, you expect fireworks — and Cardinal Mooney's 5-1 Cougars and Clearwater Central Catholic's Marauders did not disappoint. Under head coach Jared Clark, Mooney showed why they're one of the most complete teams in the state, holding off a talented CCC squad led by Chris Harvey for a 49-28 victory.

Cardinal Mooney Cougars (5-1) – Jared Clark's Squad Keeps Rolling

Mooney's offense is powered by 2027 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1909446' first='Davin' last='Davidson'] (@Ddavidson_12), a fast rising junior QB with s 6-6 frame. Davidson not only brings size but fluid athleticism, throwing with confidence and distributing to his playmakers. His recruitment is about to explode, and nights like this make it clear why.

The Cougars were electric at the skill positions. Indiana commit Laron Foye (@hall2026) was the spark, scoring two touchdowns and nearly coming away with a defensive interception. His energy lifted the team on both sides of the ball. Purdue WR commit [player_tooltip player_id='1759688' first='Kymistrii' last='Young'] (@YoungKymistrii) didn't play in the first half, but when he entered the game, his size and explosiveness immediately created problems for CCC's secondary.

In the run game, 2027 RB Connail Jackson (@ConnailJ) continued his breakout season. Already over 500 rushing yards and 8 TDs coming into the night, Jackson — paired with sophomore Braylen Brown and senior Devin Mignery — gave Mooney balance. Seniors Bo Odaniel and Mason Jordan also chipped in as reliable weapons in the passing game.

Defensively, linebacker KJ Brown once again showed why he leads the team in tackles and TFLs. Flying around with physicality, he anchored a unit that had plenty of size and muscle in the trenches with [player_tooltip player_id='283743' first='Amani' last='Armstrong'], [player_tooltip player_id='1247568' first='Elijah' last='Golden'], and Tra'vion Lester controlling the line.

Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders – Harvey's Young Core Fights

Despite the loss, Chris Harvey's CCC squad proved they're built to contend deep into November. The Marauders are young, but their roster is loaded with underclass talent that stepped up on a big stage. This was the most points scored on Mooney all season.

2027 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1895080' first='Khayse' last='Barrett'] (@BarrettKhayse) was sharp again, continuing his season as one of the more efficient passers in the area. He connected with his playmakers and showed poise against a physical Mooney front.

[player_tooltip player_id='1268166' first='Corey' last='Simms'] (@CoreySimms18) was the engine for CCC's offense. The 2026 RB is a hidden gem — strong between the tackles, tough to bring down, and capable of catching out of the backfield. His workload kept the Marauders balanced and competitive throughout the night.

On defense, [player_tooltip player_id='1870833' first='Dicarieze' last='Williams'] (@dicarieze41605) was a warrior. He leads the team in tackles and showed his toughness by battling through injuries but still flying to the football. 2026 LB [player_tooltip player_id='1142169' first='Tyrique' last='Harris'] (@TyriqueHarris39) was another standout, consistently pressuring the QB and delivering physical hits.

2028 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='608343' first='Luke' last='Wilson'] (@luke_wil7) continues to carve out his role as a gadget player on offense while also being one of the most dangerous special teams threats in the state. His speed and versatility gave CCC a needed spark.
