OAA Blue - Midseason Standouts

The OAA Blue is shaping out to be an incredibly competitive league. Farmington, Seaholm, North Farmington, and Oak Park all seem to have a shot, with Farmington being the favorite.    A few Farmington defenders have nice midseason highlight tapes. Carter has made a handful of excellent plays this season.   Kicking off his tape is a phenomenal play against Seaholm (playing edge). He earns a free rush and punishes the Maple QB on one of their rare passing plays. Not a sack, but absolutely forced that incompletion. Another play at edge (0:48), Carter perfectly covers the pitch man and earns a TFL. Finally, 0:12 is a nice highlight playing the 3-tech. Nice job getting off the ball and hammering the RB.   I feel that Carter is at his best when he's in a 2-point stance playing the 5 tech, or even outside of that. He does a nice job forcing runs inside, and rushing the passer.      A nice piece on this Farmington receiving core. Just about every good high school football team has a speed in space guy. Herchel fits the bill for Farmington.   Starting at 0:34, Herschel gets a carry on the sweep, beats defenders to the sideline, and sprints forward until eventually getting stopped after an explosive gain. At 0:48, Herschel shows off good vision on the punt return, and again finds the sideline and hugs it for as long as he can. At 1:09, he earns a reception on a simple stick route and makes the most of it, finding a wide-open lane upfield. Good tape from Herschel, and seems like an incredible performance against Holly.      A great midseason tape from Howell. Sometimes as a DB, it's difficult to get a good midseason tape out, but it seems like Howell has made the most of his opportunities thus far.   Tape begins with a brutal hit against a WR running a quick out. Even if the receiver caught the ball cleanly, it would have been incredibly difficult for him to hold on after the hit from Howell. Second (and at 0:29), a nice inside run stop against Seaholm- always nice to see a DB able to crash inside.   A good number of tackles for Howell. I like that he isn't afraid to hit, and he rarely, if ever, allows the ballcarrier to fall forward. Love Howell's physicality.      Elijah has been doing a nice job as North Farmington's QB1.   A pure dual-threat. 1:18 showcases a really nice improvised run for a near-TD. Doesn't see anyone downfield, sees a wide-open hole in the middle of the line, runs through it, finds the sideline, and nearly scores. At 1:40, Elijah takes a designed run up the middle, jukes two defenders, and earns about 25 yards. He's also capable of making the big throw, as demonstrated at 1:59. A little bit of play action, and a huge throw ≈40 yards downfield.   Very capable dual-threat QB. One of the best in the OAA!      Oak Park has been steady this season. Cardelle's highlights kick off with a great INT on a very ill-advised throw to the middle of the field. Second, a really nice PBU in zone coverage on what was a well-placed ball. Then, at 0:54, another PBU in zone coverage. A ton of PBUs on tape- consistently good ball skills. He also has a few run-stopping highlights, but Carrington's strength is definitely in pass defense.   Come postseason time, Cardelle will be a major asset in stopping the passing attack.
