In the first half, it looked like it would be a much more competitive game than we've seen in recent memory. But the Bucks accelerated to a 41-16 victory to kick off their season in style. Hominy came into this season as a top five team in Class A-2 and a serious contender for the state championship. They certainly look like a team that can make a run to Edmond in December but there's a lot of football to be played between now and then.

It was a complete performance on both sides of the ball and we were there from start to finish. Below, we have a link to our full game highlights, featuring postgame reactions from head coach Caleb Christian and two-way star [player_tooltip player_id='858870' first='Blaine' last='Hipp']. Also below, we put the spotlight on six players from Hominy that really stood out to us in one way or another during their victory on Thursday night. We've watched Hipp in person for the last three seasons and whether it's at quarterback, wide receiver, linebacker or defensive back, he's routinely been one of the best players on the field. On Thursday night in particular, Hipp was outstanding as a true dual-threat quarterback. He made some big time throws as a passer but he was also a devastating runner with his 6'5 frame. Defensively, he was a nightmare to deal with for the Cleveland offense. Hipp racked up tackles and was consistently getting into the backfield but he's also clearly very athletic and could drop in coverage and came up with an interception in the second half. In our opinion, we have no idea where Hipp ends up at the next level from a position standpoint but he should be at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1871051' first='Demarcus' last='Coleman'] - Senior Wide Receiver

Looking at some of our notes coming into this season, senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1871051' first='Demarcus' last='Coleman'] was somewhat of an unknown for us so he definitely had a breakout performance in Thursday's win. Coleman is a long wide receiver that ended up being perfect in jump ball situations from Hipp. And he was able to excel in those situations. Multiple times he was in a one on one situation and went up and snagged the ball over a Cleveland defender. But what impressed us the most about Coleman's game was his toughness. He wasn't afraid to go over the middle and receive contact. And on a few of those jump ball situations, he got absolutely rocked but still came down with the catch. He's a long, reliable and tough receiver that should walk away from this breakout performance to have a breakout senior season this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1403601' first='JR' last='Lookout'] - Senior Offensive/Defensive Lineman

Senior offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1403601' first='JR' last='Lookout'] is in a similar boat to Hipp when it comes to the state's 2026 class. We have no idea where Lookout will end up playing college football but he should be playing college football. Lookout, just like Hipp, immediately passes the eye test. He stands around 6'6 or 6'7 and has plenty of room to add some weight from a college weight room. Lookout paved the way for a Hominy rushing attack that had three different players churning up yards. Lookout also plays on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage but based on his overall skillset, we think that he projects to the offensive side of the ball. Simply put, again, just like with Hipp, not enough people are talking about Lookout. He's not a finished product by any means but the frame is there and the ceiling for him as a prospect is through the roof.

[player_tooltip player_id='1709321' first='Malakhy' last='Harris'] - Sophomore Running Back/Wide Receiver

Sophomore running back [player_tooltip player_id='1709321' first='Malakhy' last='Harris'] was a player that we were excited to watch Thursday night after seeing him in one game last season as a freshman and then again this offseason at a 7v7 tournament. Harris lived up to the hype and then some on Thursday night. The sophomore finished with four touchdowns on the night. He ran in three scores and caught a pass for his fourth touchdown on the evening. Harris is also a standout defensive back but he was definitely more of a playmaker on the offensive side of the ball. Whether it's as a runner, or a receiver out of the backfield or straight up lining up at wide receiver, Harris was able to make plenty of plays. A lot of players were starting to cramp up in the second half, including Harris. But despite not being 100 percent, you couldn't tell it as he finished strong.

[player_tooltip player_id='1830138' first='Parker' last='Wheeler'] - Sophomore Wide Receiver

Another sophomore really impressed us Thursday night and that was [player_tooltip player_id='1830138' first='Parker' last='Wheeler'] on the offensive side of the ball. This offseason, Wheeler was listed as a tight end and he was still listed on the roster as a tight end but he certainly looks like a wide receiver and played like one on Thursday night. Wheeler had several big plays and specifically was able to make things happen after the catch, getting into the open field and then showcasing the jets. The 1-2 punch of Coleman and Wheeler in the Hominy passing game at the receiver position is going to be a fun duo to watch this season. but moving forward, Wheeler is another 2028 prospect that we're going to keep an eye on. If Thursday's performance was any indication for how this season was going to go for him, we could be looking at another breakout season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1709318' first='Randee' last='Goodeagle'] - Senior Running Back

Joining Harris in the Hominy backfield was senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1709318' first='Randee' last='Goodeagle'] and if Harris is the "lightning" in this Hominy offense than that makes Goodeagle the "thunder" for sure. Goodeagle plays the game with a physicality that most defenses are not going to be able to match this season. On Thursday night, Goodeagle made the most of his carries and every time, he was looking for contact and made several Cleveland defenders pay for trying to go at him in a one on one situation. Another impressive part of his game was his ability to make plays out of the backfield as a receiver. Goodeagle found the end zone on Thursday night but it was on a receiving touchdown. He has the ability to be a workhorse back if Hominy needs him to be that. On Thursday, they didn't need it but he still performed at a high level.
