Ohio Freshman Prospects to Know

Today we looked at which Ohio freshman you need to know as we enter the 2021 fall season. The group features three prospects who have already picked up division one scholarships, despite not yet playing a down of varsity football. A pretty impressive feat in its own right. Without further ado, here’s who you need to know! <hr /> <strong><em>QB: Ryan Montogmery, 6’3", 180, Findlay</em></strong> <em><strong><img class="alignleft" src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E7K2h3dXsAciTgR?format=jpg&amp;name=large" alt="Image" width="180" height="240" /></strong></em> Montgomery shows clean footwork and a compact motion with no loop. His ball placement is spot on, as is his overall timing with wideouts. In tight coverage, he’ll put it where only his target can get it. This is a strong thrower on the move who can put the ball right on the money without setting his feet. Despite only going to be just a freshman, the arm talent is clearly there already. Right now, he has to be the state’s number one overall player in the 2025 class. <strong>Offers: Michigan, Penn State, Georgia Tech, Tennesse &amp; Toledo.</strong> &nbsp; &nbsp; <em><strong>DB: Sam Afari, 6’ 165, Lakota West</strong></em> <img class="alignright" src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E4SGAVOXEAcElqv?format=jpg&amp;name=large" alt="Image" width="197" height="262" /> A burner on the track who’s already been timed in the high eleven range in the 100 meters. Sam has the bloodlines behind him as well; his brother David is a running back at Miami (Ohio), while his other brother Alex is currently a senior defensive back at Lakota West committed to play at Kentucky. Sam has good size for a defensive back and the overall top-end speed you want for a guy to play out on an island. Look for him to push for varsity time as a freshman. <strong>Offers: Kentucky</strong> &nbsp; &nbsp; <em><strong>LB: [player_tooltip player_id="205493" first="Maddox" last="Arnold"], 6’1", 195, Elder</strong></em> <img class="alignleft" src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E4H-rCpWEAQ3aG1?format=jpg&amp;name=large" alt="Image" width="194" height="259" /> Despite not having yet to step foot in Elder High School, Maddox already has the build of a high school senior. He’s shown good movement skills in space, and that he is fairly comfortable in man coverage. You can already see the burst and acceleration to go with downright raw strength. Based on his size/build already at this age, I think he’ll be a mainstay at the mike linebacker position. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <em><strong>DB: Tyree Green Jr., 5’8", 140, Reynoldsburg</strong></em> <img class="alignright" src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E7G9YoCWQAkrQk5?format=jpg&amp;name=large" alt="Image" width="215" height="238" /> Green is a physical cornerback prospect that will gladly come up to deliver the boom in run support. He shows good instincts and tight breaks that don’t deviate outside the cylinder of his body. He understands route tempo and went to speed up or slow down against different concepts. He can even play some wideout and has made defenders look silly, stopping on a dime and cutting back on them.
