South St. Paul | 2028 MNcomes in representing the South St. Paul Packers, who are 4-0 after a narrow 22-21 defeat of Simley this past Friday. The multi-sporter also competes in track and field for the Packers, as well as a 3.4 GPA and a reported 4.9 40-yard dash.
In the 651 product’s Week 1 tape vs. MPLSCamden, where he posted 2 tackles and 1 sack, Selvig displayed himself as a DE with twitch who can turn the corner at the top of the pass rushing arc who also shows relentless hustle in pass rushing situations. Selvig gets into the backfield in a hurry and can tackle in space, is a physical run blocker as a TE/HB, and flashes a good get off and gets into an opponents backfield with a fire lit under his butt, in both run and pass situations alike.
Week 2 vs. Richfield, Selvig posted 1 sack, 1 TFL, and 2 pressures, and he popped off a great sack vs. the Spartans demonstrating his get-off and play speed. The 200 lber. can shed from OT’s off their playside shoulder when QBs or RBs are working off-tackle, owns a good get-off in pass rushing situations, and I love how fast he closes and gets into an opponents’ grill. Also displayed an effective chop/rip. In his Week 3 tape vs. NSP, where he posted 1 sack, he demonstrated twitch and closing speed on the disruptive defensive effort.
A two-sport athlete (Football/Track) who has been working to put on weight this offseason, Selvig is a TE/DL with the frame that could lend itself to a lot of success during his junior year. He doesn’t have a ton of sophomore tape, but in what he does have, he’s clearly ahead of the curve. On defense, Selvig is an explosive and violent tackler whose speed makes him a problem for offensive linemen. On offense, he can successfully drive block defenders off the ball and can stick to a double team if the situation demands it. When he gets a chance to lay someone out, he takes it. I’m intrigued to see more from the young Packers product.
