This one is a no brainer. The Braves are returning a lot of key players from its team from the spring which only lost one game, the season finale to Mater Dei. Both quarterbacks are returning after an offseason where they both made recruiting headlines. Michigan State commit Katin Houser Katin Houser 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB St. John Bosco | 2022 State CA was an Elite 11 finalist this offseason and has one of the smoother deliveries of any quarterback I’ve seen. Pierce Clarkson Pierce Clarkson 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB St. John Bosco | 2023 State CA is the other quarterback and he picked up three offers this offseason and recently took a visit to Louisville. He was great at the Battle at the Beach passing tournament and the 7-on-7 game doesn’t even match his skillset.
Earnest Greene Earnest Greene 6'5" | 330 lbs | OL St. John Bosco | 2022 State CA leads the offensive line and he has been a key target for Ohio State. Mosiah Talanoa Mosiah Talanoa 6'5" | 325 lbs | OL St. John Bosco | 2023 State CA is also a rising prospect on the Bosco offensive line. Rayshon Luke Rayshon Luke 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB St. John Bosco | 2022 State CA and Jabari Bates Jabari Bates 5'8" | 160 lbs | RB St. John Bosco | 2022 State CA are both Division 1 caliber running backs. Tayvion Beasley Tayvion Beasley 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB St. John Bosco | 2022 State CA , Sione Hala Sione Hala 6'2" | 200 lbs | DB St. John Bosco | 2022 State CA , Jaxon Harley Jaxon Harley 5'10" | 150 lbs | DB St. John Bosco | 2022 State CA , RJ Jones RJ Jones 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB St. John Bosco | 2023 State CA , Ty Lee Ty Lee 6'3" | 190 lbs | DB St. John Bosco | 2023 State CA , Jshawn Frausto-Ramos Jshawn Frausto-Ramos 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB St. John Bosco | 2023 State CA , Nehemiah Sagiao Nehemiah Sagiao 6'4" | 215 lbs | LB Los Alamitos | 2023 State CA and Peyton Woodyard Peyton Woodyard 6'2" | 195 lbs | DB St. John Bosco | 2024 State CA lead the secondary and linebacking corps. Matayo Uiagalelei Matayo Uiagalelei 6'5" | 265 lbs | DL St. John Bosco | 2023 State CA and Nathan Burrell Nathan Burrell 6'3" | 285 lbs | DL St. John Bosco | 2022 State CA are two elite edge rushers who will lead the Bosco defense. They will likely be undefeated again heading to the Mater Dei matchup.

2. Long Beach Poly
The difference between Poly and Los Alamitos is negligible and it’s honestly a coin flip between the two teams. Shea Kuykendall Shea Kuykendall 6'1" | 200 lbs | QB Long Beach Poly | 2022 State CA and Darius Curry Darius Curry 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Long Beach Poly | 2024 State CA will both get some playing time at quarterback for the Jackrabbits. Kuykendall has an offer from William & Mary and is the returner from last season. He commands the huddle well and throws hard. Curry is a sophomore with offers from LSU and Georgia among others.
Wendell Moe Wendell Moe 6'2" | 320 lbs | OL Long Beach Poly | 2022 State CA and Tyson Ruffins Tyson Ruffins 6'2" | 305 lbs | OL Long Beach Poly | 2023 State CA lead the offensive line for the Jackrabbits. Moe was the Moore League offensive lineman of the year this spring after transferring from JSerra. Poly’s top receivers from last year graduated but Tyson Bordeaux and Titus Bordeaux Titus Bordeaux 6'1" | 160 lbs | WR Long Beach Poly | 2024 State CA were impressive in offseason passing league tournaments and Devin Samples returns at running back. Donovan Poe Donovan Poe 6'2" | 225 lbs | DL Long Beach Poly | 2022 State CA is a great pass rusher on defense and St. Bernard transfer Dylan Williams is a linebacker to watch. Simeon Williams Simeon Williams 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Long Beach Poly | 2022 State CA and Daylen Austin Daylen Austin 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Long Beach Poly | 2023 State CA lead the secondary. Two big games to watch for Poly are Sept. 3 against Mission Viejo and Sept. 17 against Centennial (Corona).

3. Los Alamitos
Los Al is right there with Poly and actually has an edge at the skill positions. Oklahoma commit Malachi Nelson Malachi Nelson 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Los Alamitos | 2023 State CA is one of the best in the nation. The receiving corps is elite with Makai Lemon Makai Lemon 6'0" | 175 lbs | ATH Los Alamitos | 2023 State CA , Gavin Porch Gavin Porch 5'10" | 160 lbs | ATH Los Alamitos | 2023 State CA and Ethan O’Connor Ethan O’Connor 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Los Alamitos | 2023 State CA . Bosco transfer Nygel Osborne Nygel Osborne 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Millikan | 2023 State CA and Josiah Murray Josiah Murray 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Los Alamitos | 2022 State CA are two great running backs who add a whole new dynamic to the already elite Los Alamitos offense.
Isaiah Dorsey and Mater Dei transfer Stephen Lendsey Stephen Lendsey 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Santa Margarita | 2024 CA really impressed me in the offseason passing tournaments on defense. Lane Broderick Lane Broderick 5'11" | 185 lbs | ATH Los Alamitos | 2022 State CA is a versatile defensive back for the Griffins as well. Adam Tomczyk Adam Tomczyk 6'4" | 265 lbs | DL Los Alamitos | 2022 State CA and Sinn Brennan Sinn Brennan 6'5" | 240 lbs | DL Los Alamitos | 2023 State CA are stars on the defensive line and Brennan is a great pass rusher to watch. The big game to watch for Los Alamitos will be when they play Edison for the likely Sunset League championship.

4. Warren
The four and five ranked teams are also neck and neck and the game between the two teams this spring proved how close they are. The edge for me goes to Warren because of quarterback Nico Iamaleava Nico Iamaleava 6'5" | 200 lbs | QB Warren | 2023 State CA who is the second best junior quarterback in the state behind Nelson. He already has an elite arm and will likely even add to the arm strength with some time in the weight room. He is a pass first guy but can make plays with his legs. He’s also an elite scholarship level volleyball player at Warren.
Receiver Juan Wilson Juan Wilson 5'10" | 165 lbs | WR Warren (Downey, CA) | 2022 State CA is undersized but had a nice spring season and his recruitment has picked up a lot. He has offers from Arizona State, Minnesota and Purdue among others. Dajon Hancox Dajon Hancox 6'0" | 175 lbs | ATH Warren | 2022 State CA is a defensive back to keep an eye on and sophomore Jordan Anderson Jordan Anderson 6'1" | 165 lbs | WR Newport Harbor | 2024 State CA is a really good athlete who will have an expended role this fall. The game against Downey will likely be for the San Gabriel Valley League championship and is the biggest game of the season for both teams.

5. Downey
Downey is neck and neck with Warren and is led by two quarterbacks Noah Paez and Los Alamitos transfer Aidan Chiles Aidan Chiles 6'4" | 195 lbs | QB Downey | 2023 State CA . I saw them both at the Battle at the Beach passing tournament and they have different skillsets. Chiles has a bigger arm and is longer while Paez is very accurate on shorter routes and had great timing with the receivers. I expect both to get playing time this fall.
Keion Andrew and Antonio Ruiz will be the two running backs and Tryse Redford returns at receiver. A receiver I think will make a big impact this fall is Sharif Bell. Jaylon Gray is gets into the backfield regularly on defense and Andrew Garcia is a solid linebacker inside. Downey has a ton of talent returning and has the capability to beat Warren and win a league title.
Both Downey QBs Noah Paez and Aidan Chiles showed flashes against Mater Dei. Both have big arms and Paez is accurate on short routes. MD wins though to play Santa Margarita. CJ Williams is incredible for MD. @PrepRedzoneCA @Downey_Football @MDFootball @SGVNSports @James_Escarcega
