Recruiting Report: Bennett Lecher/WR/Litchfield (2021)

LITCHFIELD-- Northstar Football News caught up with 2021 NFN prospect Bennett Lecher who plays wide receiver for the Litchfield Dragons and is looking to play "next level" football in the future. We chatted with Lecher about his football journey, his recruiting, and much more! Get to Know Bennett Lecher Lecher is a slot wide receiver that plays with a chip on his shoulder. Lecher is a very competitive person that lets whoever is defending him know that they are going to be "dominated" by his explosive route running abilities. Lecher has some college football ties to the game of football, as his older brother Jordan Lecher played Division II football at Minnesota-Crookston from 2008-2011 and averaged over 12 yards per catch during his time with the now defunct Golden Eagles football program. Lecher's strength is his route running and having good hands which are both absolute key components to have as a wide receiver. Lecher also has the ability to beat defensive backs with his solid speed. Favorite Part About Wide Receiver Lecher certainly has a favorite part about wide receiver that we don't hear many receivers openly say. His favorite part? "Roasting" defenders and making the defender look like a "fool", along with the ultimate challenge the wide receiver position brings to Lecher. College Interest/Elevator Pitch So far, Lecher has heard from three programs one being in the NSIC and the others being in the WIAC and the UMAC conference. "Bemidji State, UW-River Falls and St. Scholastica in Duluth are the only ones that have contacted me about playing," Lecher said to Northstar Football News. His elevator pitch to future college coaches interested is "I have the ability to perform at the next level with my hands and route running, paired with my speed can be an asset to your program." Lecher told NFN. Lecher also has a strong work ethic and has a will to "do whatever it takes" to improve his game at wide receiver. Working For Next Season Although Lecher is already one of the fastest players on the Dragons offense, the coaching staff said they want him to continue working on his speed, which is key to a slot receivers success, as you want to described as a burner in the slot. The Dragons told Lecher to focus on leg workouts and more away from the heavy lifting mentality so many football players want to do. Lecher works three days a week this offseason (Mon, Wed, Fri) on run sprints, inclined sprints, lunges and multiple other leg workouts. Bennett's Mentor Lecher's older brother Jordan Lecher as his older brother we noted earlier who played for the Golden Eagles of Minnesota Crookston, ever since he stopped playing the game he's been studying the game, especially Bennett's game. "He is the one that watches my games and tells me what I can do better, and what I'm doing well and then takes me out to the field to show me exactly what I was struggling with." he said to Northstar Football News about his older brother, Jordan. Bennett gets all the tricks and tips from Jordan from that on the field guidance he gives him regularly during the season. Leaning from Last Season Lecher learned something last season that we should expect from every high school program in the state. "I learned that I am a leader to the younger kids and if I don't back down and keep fighting they will to,"he told NFN. Staying "calm" in close late game situations is another thing Lecher learned last season as that calming ability, will lead you make clutch big plays in the end of games where it really matters. Last but not least, Lecher learned the definition of "practice makes perfect" as practicing hard on every play, and working your tail off in the offseason leads to a successful season upcoming. You can check out Lecher's solid route running and elusive speed in his junior highlight tape (click here)
