I recently finished a series on some of the top players in the lower classifications, but amidst that series and our NCHSAA conference previews, we haven't had much coverage of other associations, namely the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA).

Here, I'm going position-by-position to give readers an idea of which private school players to keep an eye out for this season. I've already looked at the top NCISAA players on offense, so switch sides of the ball. Here are the top NCISAA IDLs to know.

A personal scouting favorite of mine, Burns is one of the best pure run stoppers in the state. He moves well for his massive size and can actually shoot gaps and chase down ball carriers. If I see him realize some of his pass-rushing upside as a senior, FCS schools will break down the door to earn his commitment.

Clavin has been hot on the recruiting trail in recent weeks, and he still has plenty of room to improve as a player, especially as a pass-rusher, given his size and quickness. He can fire off the ball with ease and the athletic profile has led several programs at the lower levels to jump in with offers. Given his academic pedigree, I can think of a few high-academic schools who should probably watch his senior year closely.

The recent Georgetown Hoyas commit has some real versatility along the defensive line, as Barber has played multiple positions in multiple alignments. He's primarily a 3-4 defensive end, but he can slide down to 3-technique in even fronts and has a handful of plays at nose tackle. He's a run-stopping fiend who has some untapped pass-rushing potential, and we're excited to see him play this season.

A recent reclassification to the class of 2028 should really help Ibe, who has the talent and probably needs one extra year to grow into his body. By the time his senior year rolls around, Ibe should be a hot commodity on the recruiting circuit and could be playing nose guard or 3-technique at a high level. He's quick off the ball and has some real raw power on the inside. Some improvements in his pad level and balance should turn him into an elite prospect.

Just a freshman, Moser has already flashed the ability to take on double-teams and do the dirty work at nose tackle. He's a strong player who is just starting to grow into his body. However, the arm strength already shows on film. He has that excellent ability some tackles have of being able to latch on and bring down ball carriers, even when engaged with blockers, something that should really show up when he gets more varsity reps.
