The position swap between 2029 Cabell Midland DB Zavion Beckett and Tayten Nelson has helped both young defensive backs take a noticeable step forward this season. Beckett’s biggest strength as a freshman starter last year was his tackling, and that trait has translated well to his new role at safety. He’s aggressive coming downhill and does a good job tackling in space. Beckett is strong in run support and n underneath throws with good closing speed. I haven’t seen as much from him in coverage yet, but the athletic traits are there for Beckett to become effective in that area as he develops.

BREAKOUT CANDIDATE

2029 Cabell Midland DB Zavion Beckett is another young player expected to build on an impressive freshman campaign. After earning All-MSAC honors, Beckett enters the season with valuable varsity experience and should continue to play a significant role in the Knights’ secondary. His physical style of play and willingness to support against the run fit the identity Cabell Midland wants on defense, while another year of development should only make him more complete in coverage. The Knights have several promising underclassmen returning, and Beckett is firmly among the group they’ll lean on as they continue moving the program forward.

2029 Cabell Midland WR/DB Zavion Beckett already carries valuable experience into the Exposure Series after earning a starting role as a freshman for the Knights. That early playing time showed flashes of the upside that has people excited about where his game could go over the next few years. Beckett has the background that should help him settle in quickly once reps begin, especially on the defensive side. It’ll also be interesting to see what he brings as a pass catcher and how comfortable he looks at WR without any film on him at that position. Beckett feels like one of the young prospects capable of separating himself in this talented 2029 group if things click during camp.

He earned All-MSAC honors as a freshman for the Knights and showed early signs of developing into a top DB in 2029. Beckett is an effective tackler in space and does a nice job of breaking down and making a play in the open field as a young player. His effort and hustle also showed up on film when pursuing the ball, even if the play was to the opposite side of the field. We’d like to see more film of Beckett in coverage to better judge his ability in that facet, but he’s shown early upside in year one to follow closely moving forward.
