Now that I have a few busy Summer Camp SZNs under my belt, I’m comfortable proclaiming that La Crosse Aquinas is one of my favorite Upper Midwest programs to see recruits from on the camp trail. The Blugolds‘ 2027 iOL Chase Schams is every bit of a beefy beast in the trenches that the Great State of Wisconsin traditionally and consistently produces so well at, and he measured in at the SDSU second & final prospect camp of the summer at 6′ 1/4″, 300.2 lbs., with a 76 3/4 wing (6’4 3/4), and 9 1/2 hands., with some good testing times and verified athleticism to back him, not to mention the great build and some strong Wisconsin starting varsity experience.

Schams was beating, as well as physically dominating, some impressive DL competition from a variety of Upper Midwest states, as his excellent base, strength and power at the point of attack, and balance were showing up extremely well during 1v1s, especially in pass pro reps. Schams could still win reps when a DL is playing half a man, and his footwork and balance post-contact, even against very powerful DTs and 3Ts, was shutting down rushers in their tracks. Schams gets up and into DL early off the snap, brings the fight to the rusher, and has heavy hands that stun and freeze DL at his initial strike effective. He also flashed impressive lateral agility that helps him stay in front of rushers all throughout a rep and is/was a physical finisher when given the opportunity. Michigan Tech, Drake, MSU-Moorhead, UW-River Falls, Bemidji State, SMSU, Upper Iowa, UWEC, UW-Platteville, Minot State, Augsburg, and Whitewater have all offered this summer. Talk about productive!

I’m hard-pressed to think of another OL/DL who raised their stock like Chase did this summer. I was lucky enough to cross paths with Chase at several camps and got to see his dominance over and over. It was the raw power that caught our attention and the way he can use speed to create power. In the run game the big man proved to be a mauler. Quick to close on his man, get hands on and erase any space, then run his feet and plow DL out of gaps. The power from his feet to his hands is worthy of the next level. I can’t wait to see exactly how much he is able to rise up our boards. Chase holds offers from Oshkosh, Dordt, Stevens Point, Whitewater, Platteville, Eau Claire, Upper Iowa, SMSU, River Falls, Michigan Tech, Drake, Bemidji State, and MSU- Moorhead. Big things ahead for the Aquinas standout.

Chase is now 3/3 at catching my attention at camps and already that number is at two in the back to back to back camps I have scouted him the great state of Wisconsin this spring and summer. He was another one that I would put in the top-tier group out fo the offensive line group at the UWEC Big Man MEGA Camp as in those back to back camps, I don’t think I have seen Chase lose a 1v1 rep yet this summer in the pair of WIAC prospect camps I have been to. Chase also I felt grew a bit when it came to his footwork from what I saw last summer as he was quicker at setting his base and yet again showed off great pad-level and excellent leverage. I have to say even with a bunch of WIAC offers, I am surprised the D2 level hasn’t locked in yet with an offer for Chase but that could surely change soon.

OL MVP

Anyone that was in attendance at the UW-Stout prospect camp would tell you there wasn’t much doubt on who the OL MVP was in everyone’s eyes, as it was La Crosse Aquinas Chase Schams Chase Schams 6'2" | 285 lbs | OL/DL Aquinas | 2027 State WI . The 6’2 285 pounder was also a standout last summer at the UND Flagship Camp that I got onto my radar and he surely has taken even more steps forward as we start up summer camp season. Not only was Chase extremely violent with his hands, but he also had excellent pad-level that got several defensive linemen way off balance and quickly with his great leverage he showed off on every rep. This young man is certified mauler that was one of the most pure finishers I saw in the offensive line group as there’s no doubt that Chase has the blue-collar work ethic you want in your offensive trenches. There’s a reason why he’s picked up a a handful of offers in the last few days and surely is going to be one that gets even more attention at camps this summer as I would expect plenty more attention to come his way.
