Expert Analysis
Cooper Morreale | Prep Redzone Scout
Sam Widler is an impressive DE from Spanish Fort who’s really come to life on their defense the past two seasons.
“Wilder is a force in the trenches who makes an impact nearly every snap. At 6’3 230, he has great size, impressive speed, and some serious power/strength he uses to bully offensive linemen up front.
I really like Wilder’s skills as a pass rusher- he’s quick off the snap, has a high motor, and can consistently generate pressure/place hits on QBs. Almost every single passing down, you can find Wilder in the backfield causing some kind of issue- it’s impressive to see.“
Wilder had a real breakout season for Spanish Fort’s defense this past fall. I’m excited to see his senior year, I think he’s set up for a ton of success.

Wilder is a production-backed disruptor whose impact jumps off both the tape and the stat sheet. He wins with elite get-off, quick diagnosis, and controlled hand usage, consistently beating pullers and arriving at the point of attack before blockers can adjust.
His versatility allows him to play inside or outside, where he wreaks havoc against both the run and pass. Wilder’s closing speed turns pressures into finishes, and his strip-first mentality when sacking the quarterback creates sudden drive-ending moments. He’s a relentless presence that offenses struggle to scheme away from.

Wilder delivered a dominant two-way performance, making his presence felt in both the run and pass game. He racked up eight tackles, including four tackles for loss, showing his knack for penetrating the backfield. His relentless motor produced four quarterback hurries, keeping pressure on the pocket throughout the contest. On top of his defensive dominance, Wilder contributed a touchdown, proving his ability to impact the game in multiple phases. His effort and intensity set the tone for the defense.

8/10/25: Well-developed frame with some visible muscle mass. I would want to get him in person to see how he looks and confirm measurables. Explosive first step and good closing speed to the ball. Real feisty at the point of attack with legitimate play strength. Punches, extends, and rips through blockers with more mass than him. Just looks like a kid who will produce at the next level. Plays hard and doesn’t lack explosiveness. Holds FCS offer. Underrecruited.

Wilder is a well-built, sturdy pass rusher who offers a unique blend of size and speed off the edge. He is a ball of momentum downhill, exploding off the line and driving his feet through contact to create vertical push. He flashes some patience when setting the edge and is a big absorber when sealing the edge. To complement his size and straight-line burst, he bends well for his size, given his muscle mass. He is farther along physically than most edge prospects at his age. He holds an offer from UNA, but surely won’t be his last.

Wilder ended his sophomore campaign with 57 total tackles (8 for loss), 4 sacks and 22 pressures.
With production like that, teams are starting to take notice of Wilder- he picked up an offer from North Alabama late last week, and I expect more to head his way soon.
Wilder put together some great tape from last season- check it out below:
