Overview (Class 3A Preseason Ranking: #1)
The Holland Hall Dutch knew that the 2020 season could be a fairly special one and it didn’t take long for the state to recognize that the Dutch were the team to beat in 3A football. They opened the season with a near 50-point shut out of rival Cascia Hall and two weeks later they beat up on defending 2A champion and eventual back to back 2A champ Metro Christian by 35-points. At that point, Holland Hall had everyone’s attention and they became the new favorite in Class 3A. They would navigate a district that featured canceled games due to Covid and in a week nine showdown against Verdigris, with the district title on the line, the Dutch absolutely housed the young Cardinals in a 52-7 blowout. The playoffs seemed to be just as easy for Holland Hall as they would beat their four playoff opponents by a combined 146 points. And during that championship game, I remember looking at the roster and seeing how many juniors were on the field and making big plays and thought that the Dutch might be making another trip to Wantland Stadium in 2021. They have a total of ten starters returning off last year’s championship team. They will have to replace massive names like Player Of The Year finalist

. But it was apparent last year in that title game that the Dutch would have enough firepower returning that a step back wasn’t likely. Now, the target is bigger than arguably ever before but the Dutch appear ready to defend their title as our preseason number one team in Class 3A.

when you talk about his position because he was an absolute two-way star for the Dutch on their way to the state championship in 2020. He was one of the best ball hawks in the state with nearly 10 interceptions on the season. He also caught 7 touchdown passes on the offensive side of the ball. We’ll say that Roush was more valuable on the defensive side of the ball in 2020 but it’s hard to predict where he’ll be more valuable this fall.

. The Dutch big man was an absolute rock for Holland Hall and we were very impressed by his game and his leadership off the field. With a new quarterback and some new faces on offense, Nolin will be relied on to be that leader we saw in 2020. Nolin is an absolute mauler on the line of scrimmage and the scouting report says we might even see him play a little defense, which would be a scary sight.

. Gouldsby was in the middle of a breakout season in 2020 as a playmaker when he had a knee injury. The young star is back to 100% and is ready to take the helm of this Dutch offense. Expect more fireworks and quarterback runs as Gouldsby takes over. However, he’ll have plenty of talent to get the ball to in the backfield and at the wide receiver position.

. When it comes to the recruiting side of things, Campbell will be the most recruited athlete out of the Dutch football program in recent memory and it’s easy to see why. He shuts down one side of the field for the opposing passing game and goes into this year as one of the top overall prospects in the state.

was perhaps the most under the radar star that took the field for the Dutch. Woodham was their workhorse running back with nearly 1,000 yards on the ground but also was one of the top tacklers in the state with well over 100 tackles. If he brings that same style of play to the field in 2021, he’s going to be one of the top two-way players in the Tulsa-area and could be a big reason the Dutch go back to back.

Notable
After years and years of being a non-OSSAA member school, Holland Hall finally joined the state’s association in 2016 and five years later, they were raising the gold ball in Edmond. The Dutch played in the Southwest Prep Conference, which consisted of only one other Oklahoma school in Casady down in Oklahoma City. The rest of the schedule was against private schools down in Texas, in the Fort Worth area and even further south in Houston. In 2016, the Dutch officially started playing OSSAA football and were put in Class 2A. Since then, they’ve made the 2A playoffs every year from 2016-2019, including back to back quarterfinal trips in their first two seasons and then back to back 2nd round defeats to Washington in 2018 and 2019. 2020 featured a move up to Class 3A and it was their first trip to the state championship game and they made the most of it by capturing the gold ball in a 35-7 victory over defending champion Lincoln Christian.
2021 Schedule/Games To Watch
Aug. 27 – All Saints’ Episcopal, TX.
Sept. 3 – Cascia Hall
– The annual Hall Brawl is one of the bigger games on the Holland Hall schedule every year and this year will be no different. After opening the season in week zero against All Saints out of Texas, the Dutch will host their rivals from Cascia in a 3A/2A showdown. Holland Hall’s 49-0 drubbing of Cascia Hall last year was really the eye opener that put the Dutch into title contention. The week one rivalry game will be a good gauge of where the Dutch are in 2021.
Sept. 17 – AT Metro Christian
– After a week two bye week, the Dutch will travel to face two-time defending 2A champion Metro Christian, another team that they blew out in 2020. However, the Patriots will have one of the top quarterbacks in the state running their offense in 2021 and will give the Dutch their first real test. Holland Hall will see some talented offenses in 3A football this fall but the Patriots will really put their defense on the ropes. Before the Dutch go into what’s going to be a tough district, they have a brutal road test in week three against Metro.
Sept. 24 – AT Mannford
Oct. 1 – Central
Oct. 8 – AT Vinita
Oct. 14 – AT Berryhill
Oct. 22 – Jay
Oct. 29 – AT Verdigris
– The Dutch and Verdigris are #1 and #2 in our preseason rankings for Class 3A and we’ll end up seeing them square off in week nine and the district championship will more than likely be on the line. Berryhill and Vinita will have something to say about that but if these two teams are still 1 and 2 at the end of October, the stakes will be incredibly high when they the Dutch head to Verdigris to take on a Cardinal team that they smoked in 2020 but a Cardinal team that returns everyone and is hungrier than ever.
