Check out some of the top defensive newcomers to the 2022 Prep Redzone AZ Rankings. [player_tooltip player_id="155814" first="Jeff" last="Lambert"], LB, Corona Del Sol Recruiting stock is on the rise for the Corona Del Sol linebacker that has pulled in two D1 offers in June from Northern Arizona and New Mexico. He has performed extremely well at offseason camps and showcases where he’s been able to show his good combination of size and athleticism for the position. His versatility and natural instincts/anticipation allow him to makes plays all over the field in both the run game and in coverage. He shows good speed, short area burst, and lateral agility to quickly close space and break on the ball carrier. As a tackler, he’s strong and powerful at the contact point using good leverage and hip fire to deliver a blow. He demonstrates his good fundamentals and technique with efficient movement and smart attack angles. Great leadership and intangibles. [player_tooltip player_id="161937" first="Dematris" last="Azcueta"], DB, Casa Grande Azcueta is a dual athlete (Track/Football) that is a smart and heady cover corner. He shows good transitional speed and change-of-direction to burst out of his back pedal and close space or recover. Strong natural coverage instincts, he shows he can anticipate and put himself in position to make plays. Plus ball skills, he’s able to track/adjust to ball flight and effectively defend at the high point. He’s a sure and reliable one on one tackler, does a good job fighting off stalk blocks and locating the ball carrier while maintain his outside leverage and making strong open field tackles. Recruiting has picked up pulling in offers from San Diego, Arizona Christian, Abilene Christian, and Finlandia. [player_tooltip player_id="161938" first="Myller" last="Terameau"], DB, Saguaro A transfer to Saguaro out of Apopka HS in Florida. He’s a fluid athlete with quick feet and plus top end speed. He’s loose in the hips and explosive out of his back pedal showing great leg drive and short area burst out of his transition. He makes quick decisive reads and plays fast, physical, and relentless allowing him to make plays all over the field. Shows plus ball skills and timing, he has good ability to track the ball in flight and make aggressive plays on the ball without hesitation. Great competitive nature and isn’t afraid to go head to head with top wide outs. Pulled in an offer from NAU soon after transferring and expect him to make his presence felt as soon as he hits the field in the strong Saguaro secondary. [player_tooltip player_id="161958" first="Fisher" last="Camac"], DL, Highland At 6’7”, Camac possesses great length as an edge rusher with plenty of room to add weight to his frame. He shows good athleticism, speed, and body control for his size. Has strong and quick hands to effectively keep blockers off of him and away from his body. He’s savvy with his movement and ability to shed/avoid blockers to locate the ball carrier. Flashes a great motor, he’s relentless in pursuit and has the speed/movement skills to chase from the backside or down field. Love his ability as a pass rusher off the edge. Understand it’s tough to play with good pad level at 6’7” but would like to see him play with better leverage to become stronger at the contact point. Holds an offer from Southwest Minnesota State but has D1 potential and upside. [player_tooltip player_id="161989" first="Brandon" last="Wettstein"], LB, American Leadership Academy (Queen Creek) Wettstein continues to impress at offseason camps and showcases. Flashes impressive athleticism and movement skills with the versatility to play multiple positions on either side of the ball. Good burst and acceleration when changing directions with the top end speed to chase down plays all over the field. He’s decisive with his reads and possesses a quick trigger to react and break on the ball. He’s a strong tackler that brings a thump when he fires his hips through contact and does a great job breaking down in space and being a reliable open field tackler. The game comes very naturally to him and he’s a well-rounded football player with good potential and a high ceiling.
