The fun part of being involved with state rankings is that I have the chance to come across prospects that I think are total gems. The best part is that I get to celebrate those prospects, write about them, and – hopefully – deliver some deserving attention their way.

Without further adieu, here are a batch of prospects within the position mentioned in the title that deserve a good look by all.

Another Wayne Valley prospect makes the update with [player_tooltip player_id='1515100' first='Darrius' last='Rivers']. Rivers was simply a physical mismatch as a y-out. Like a creek, Rivers slow plays his speed until he explodes into a defense's delta, as he explodes through its levels. In other words, he is a rare tight end that can get behind safeties. Should he not blow past deep defenders, one-on-one he knows how to set them up to beat them. Rivers also can make catches in traffic and is tough to bring down.

[player_tooltip player_id='1566416' first='Sean' last='Welde'] might be your more conventional tight end: big person with a big, thick body. For as big as he is, however, he does a lot of the things well that the more nimble wide receivers do. This list includes: make over the shoulder catches, convert sliding grabs, adjust to balls thrown behind him, and win on his release. As physically gifted as he is, Welde can asborb a hit and keep running without breaking stride. There probably is not a tight end prospect with more upside in this class than Welde.
