2027 Rankings Update- Disruptive Defenders Added to Our List

Rogers is quick off of the edge and plays with a ton of bend and speed- he completely flies by OTs on pass-rushing downs, ripping and speed-rushing around them to get to the quarterback. Rogers is an every-down defender who can seriously impact the run as well, he has excellent pursuit skills and quickness that help him wrap up the ball carrier for little to no gain no matter where they're running. It's incredibly impressive watching the motor Rogers plays with, he plays at a high speed and doesn't ease up at all, making plays even after getting blocked multiple times. Rogers impressed me with his tape, he has a ton of potential going forward and is already a dominant force for Hueytown off of the edge. Rogers saw his recruitment begin to open up throughout last season- picking up offers from North Alabama and Eastern Kentucky. At ILB, Verges has excellent instincts and recognizes plays really well, he flies around the field and puts himself in great position to make plays against the run and pass. Verges plays with a ton of speed and pursuit that allows him to thrive off the edge as a pass rusher. On tape, he completely overwhelms OL with his speed and makes huge plays in the backfield- affecting the quarterback and the run game. One of the most impressive things I saw in Verges' tape were his run fits- he does an amazing job closing down rushing lanes and taking down the ball carrier at or behind the line of scrimmage- it is incredibly hard to run the ball against him. Verges has seen his recruitment begin to open up over the last few weeks- he's picked up offers from UAB, Jacksonville State, and Liberty, and has plenty more on the way soon. Lewis is a big dude who plays with some really impressive speed, he causes problems down the line of scrimmage and makes offenses work to do anything against him. Lewis has excellent pursuit skills, he makes some highlight reel sideline-to-sideline plays- it's seriously impressive watching him hunt down the ball carrier at his size. Lewis is also terrific at holding his own in the trenches- he fights off blocks and completely dominates the OL across from him, consistently generating great penetration on the LOS. Lewis might be one of the top run defenders in our 2027 class, he causes offenses so much trouble with how well he controls and demolishes the line. Lewis picked up his first offer a few weeks back from Jacksonville State and will likely have more head his way soon. Orum is relentless off the edge and has a terrific motor- he has some plays where he fights off 2-3 blocks to close in on the QB/ball carrier, it's seriously impressive watching the effort he plays with every down. Orum is also a problem on the interior, he can completely overwhelm guards with his power and violent hands- he can work his way into the backfield anywhere on the line of scrimmage, making him highly versatile in Montgomery Catholic's defense. Orum commands a lot of attention from opposing OL, and does a great job opening up opportunities for his teammates to make plays- occasionally he'll free up another DL to go make a play because he's creating such an impact on his side of the line. Cawthorne is a force in the trenches who generates a ton of push on the line every down. He is terrific against the run- consistently closing rushing lanes, fighting off blocks, and wrapping up the ball carrier at and behind the line of scrimmage- never giving up big gains on his side of the field. Cawthorne can also generate a ton of interior pressure on pass plays, frequently helping his teammates collapse the pocket, and coming away with some huge timely sacks. It's really impressive watching the leverage Cawthorne plays with- he gets super low and generates a ton of power because of it, consistently overwhelming smaller and less strong OG/Cs and dominating the line of scrimmage. Cawthorne produced a ton for Huntsville last season, ending his sophomore year with 51 total tackles (20 solo, 7 for loss), 3.5 sacks, and 5 hurries.
