Moss Point EDGE defender Jamarious Brown Jamarious Brown 6'4" | 255 lbs | DL Moss Point | 2023 State MS has been reeling in Power 5 offers for some time now. Take a look at the tape and you will quickly understand. Brown has a lean but strong frame that situates him perfect off the edge with feisty hands that make him a difficult matchup for offensive lines. Elite length and motor are a couple of traits that set Brown above the rest of the defensive linemen in the state and helps him land the number 1 spot at the position in this update. Expect Brown to play college ball literally wherever he chooses.
Right on the heels of Brown is Tabias Hinton Tabias Hinton 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Hattiesburg | 2023 State MS who also has an impressive offer sheet early in the game. The Hattiesburg native is built to play on the edge as well and uses his mature frame to leverage himself around the end with ease. Impressive athletic ability is present for Hinton who has endless potential. The Hattiesburg d-line will be fun to watch this upcoming year because of Hinton.
Kelten Mickell Kelten Mickell 6'2" | 275 lbs | DL Petal | 2023 State MS of Petal holds the number 3 spot in this rankings update on the defensive front and is the first inside technique guy on our list. Impressive burst off the ball with his size is present in Mickell who has elite strength in his lower half. Disruptive hands and a knack for the football translate into making Mickell one of the best run stoppers in the state. With no signs of growth slowing down, expect to see Mickell driving ball carries mad for quite some time.
The biggest guy on our list is Malik Miller Malik Miller 6'4" | 305 lbs | DL Clarksdale | 2023 State MS , the 300+ pounder from Clarksdale. Size alone helps Miller project to this list, although he has a way to go from an athleticism standpoint. Miller clogs up the line and takes inside runs away from offensive game plans. Potential is present if for no other reason due to his physical frame.
Rounding out the top 5 of the list is Columbus native Tyrese Erby Tyrese Erby 6'1" | 250 lbs | DL Columbus | 2023 State MS . Erby’s tape screams potential which should be tapped into as he receives more snaps moving forward. Erby has slipperiness to him which is impressive due to his size. The inside tackle spot will be home to Erby moving foward, who will have plenty of opportunities to prove himself in a very tough division.
The d-line bunch for 2023 has numerous names that have already surfaced but expect to see breakout type campaigns and attention from college recruiting staff appearing for many more in the near future.
Keep an eye on Eric Thomas Jr Eric Thomas Jr 6'3" | 240 lbs | DL Starkville | 2023 State MS and Malaki Pegues Malaki Pegues 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Oxford | 2023 State MS as summer progresses as potential breakout players in 6A in the coming year.
Mississippi has a history of growing NFL talent on the defensive front and from the looks of things that shouldn’t be slowing down anytime soon.
