About Zachary

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My style is to always go hard, harder than the other guys. I'm not the biggest on the team, but I work the hardest and my efforts match that. I take my game, teammates and coaches seriously and put in 100% commitment.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I would have to say that my PASSION and COMMITMENT come through both on and off the field. My family and friends know that I would do absolutely anything for them. On the field, my coaches and teammates have said the same. I am fun loving and spontaneous. Why not throw our paddleboards on the car and go for a sunset paddle with my mom? Life is an adventure and I love the ride.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I'm a big fan of the Special Olympics and volunteer with Unified Sports and at Special Olympics events. I also volunteer at CFBNJ, our local food bank in NJ. I'm also involved with the Relay for Life Club, Love Blue Inc, Key Club and my youth group.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I've been blessed to be a natural leader. Though I haven't undergone formal training in this area, but since I was little my friends have always seen me as a leader. My parents, church, coaches and friends have all helped me develop as a leader and someone who wants to help. Compassion and service sum up my belief as to what a good leader should be. Someone who strives to make others better.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My parents and family have blessed me with a great life. My biggest challenge so far has been losing my grandma and moving a few times. We moved in with my grandmother to help her for the last few years of her life. Seeing her get sicker and not being able to make her better was the hardest thing I've encountered so far. Yes, I could keep her company and do little things, but I was also helpless.

What type of college are you looking for?

Honestly, I am not totally sure. I'm looking forward to visiting several colleges to get an idea. I know that I want to be able to achieve a degree at a 4 year college, with grad school to follow. Academics are important to me, as well as athletics.

A prospect looking to crack the varsity rotation in a major way this season is Ridge’s Zachary Blanford Zachary Blanford Zachary Blanford 5'9" | 160 lbs | LB/ATH Ridge | 2027 State NJ . Blanford tackles extremely well, yet manages to wrap up defenders even better. I had a hard time getting a strong evaluation on him since he did not always highlight himself pre-snap on tape or early enough. Blanford does see his keys and has shown a variety of tackling forms and technique.
