Expert Analysis

Cobbs took a boost up our rankings after strong work this summer during college camps then he showed the proper development this Fall at Munford for us to push him up to the 10th ranked receiver in the state. The Cougars senior wideout is an excellent route runner for his size and he uses that size well to get under and around people to quickly get into open space. He shows on film the ability to create space between him and his defenders, which is a sought after trait on the collegiate level. That’s a big reason why Washington St. pursued the Memphis area product and received his commitment earlier this year. He will need to continue gaining mass to sustain his football career but the work ethic is there for Cobbs to get there and turn himself into a possible starting slot receiver during his time at Wazzu.

Cobbs is one of the most explosive wideouts in the #TN2024 class and is being underrated due to his size. He is a threat to score every time he touches the ball with his combination of lightning quick feet, lateral agility, change of direction skills and foot speed. Refined and Nuanced route runner, Cobbs understands how to attack DB’s leverage to create natural separation with clean route breaks. He plays bigger than his size at the catch point in contested situations and shows solid play strength after the catch.

Cobbs runs precise routes, showing an innate feel for setting up defensive backs to create separation. He tracks the ball well downfield and consistently runs under long throws. He has a tapered build and strong hands, ripping the ball back with ease when defensive backs manage to get a hold of it. He’s a precise route runner, creating separation when used on quick outs and stop patterns in college. He has good stop-start ability and lateral agility. If this West Tennessee playmaker had three more inches on him, Cobbs would be one of the more heavily recruited prospects from our #TN2024 class, however he is 5’9 and fighting that uphill battle but believe me, this guy can play! The Cougars senior wideout works best coming out of the slot where he can use his size and speed to his advantage, becoming a mismatch against bigger defenders. Cobbs also plays much bigger too, meaning he can go up high to compete for the ball and come down with the catch along with competing for anything thrown his way. This guy would be a steal for whichever school decides to go all in on this Memphis area prospect.

Cobbs is extremely quick and shifty as a route runner, showing the ability to separate from defenders almost instantly. His suddenness helps him to discard coverage and open up for his quarterback early in his route. He’s dangerous on a whip-route and likes to vary route tempo to lull defenders to sleep. He attacks opponents’ leverage and uses head fakes and stutter steps to get them turning in circles. He shows a good feel for spacing and knows how to settle into the open zone.
