Today, Nate from Northstar Football News headed back to the Twin Cities with his next player. We caught up with NFN prospect Zach Osmek out of Centennial. We chatted with Zach about his recruiting interest, what kind of player he is, and what goals he has for himself and his Cougars team, with the state tournament starting on Friday for the Cougars Zach Osmek Position: Free Safety High School Program: Centennial Class: 2020, Senior Get to Know Zach Osmek Osmek is a free safety for the Cougars and one that brings fire and intensity to the field. He is a kid that works extremely hard on and off the field and always wants to grow with the game of football and see how he can get better. His main strength at free safety is coming downhill on the run game and finishing the tackle with ease. Best Part About Free Safety Osmek's favorite part about free safety is being able to see the entire field as safety and being effective in the run game and the passing game. College Interest With the season-ending soon, Osmek is still undecided on if he will play college football. He does have interest from multiple programs in D-2 and D-3 programs in Minnesota and the Midwest. We will have to see how his season with Cougars plays out and if he decides to play college football. Improvements from the Off-Season by Osmek Coming off knee surgery last year, Osmek's off-season was committed to strengthing and rehabbing. "I came back faster and stronger," Osmek told NFN after his therapy. Osmek has also got in the weight room more, putting on 10 pounds of muscle from last season, which he said has benefited his game this year for the Cougars. Zach's Mentor Osmek said his biggest mentor on the football field is his safeties coach at Centennial."From the first day I came onto this team as a junior, he believed in me and saw something in me that no one else did" Zach said when talking about his mentor on the field. He was also key to Zach's success rehab after knee surgery and was influential on his weight training this past off-season. Team Goals for the Playoffs/Individual Goals The Cougars set their team goals and attained them this year by being North-Metro district champions. "We came in knowing we had a strong team and wanted to prove to everyone we were legit," Osmek said about his Cougars team on their improvements this season. The Cougars' goal going into playoffs is "continue this winning streak and get to state" Osmek told us in his final statement. The Centennial Cougars (6-2) have been given a 7 seed in the state tournament and will play 26 seed, the Stillwater Ponies (3-5) on Friday at 7:00 PM in Circle Pines.
