PRZPA Team Preview, Palmyra

<p><strong>Season Outlook</strong>: Palmyra struggled last year going 2-8 on the year. They do bring back a good core of players and should be improved this season. </p>   <p><strong>Current Head Coach</strong>: Chris Pavone</p>   <p><strong>Top returning 2024 prospects: </strong></p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Aldo Ferretti played as an outside linebacker last year for Palmyra. He shows good instincts as he does a good job of reading and reacting to the play and attacking downhill. He does a good job in pass coverage by dropping back and making the play on balls thrown in his direction. Ferretti should be an even bigger contributor this season. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='1326031' first='Justin' last='Kaplan'] is a good athlete who can score anytime he touches the ball. He was used as a running back, slot receiver, and returner last year. He has legit speed and when he gets into the open field he is gone. He also shows good patience in the way he runs the ball. He then explodes through the hole and makes defenders miss. He also shows a physical running style that is hard to bring down. Kaplan also played as a linebacker last year and showed good skills at that position as well. He does a nice job in both man-to-man and zone coverage. In man-to-man defense, he does a good job of using his hands to engage and keep his balance against receivers. He has great size (6'3 inches tall) so that allows him to match up against bigger receivers. He also does a nice job in zone coverage by playing in the zone defense and not giving up big plays. He also does a good job coming upfield and making tackles in the open field. He threw for 944 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also plays as a cornerback for Palmyra. I expect him to improve this season for Palmyra. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='1282037' first='Braxtin' last='Risser'] has elite speed and when he gets into the open field he is off the the races. This is apparent from watching his film as a running back. He also has the elusiveness to make defenders miss inside and outside the hole. When he hits the hole he looks like he explodes out of a cannon. He does a good job of keeping contain on the edge and keeping everything in front of him as a defensive player. He does a solid in pass coverage by dropping in his zone and taking away the short pass play. Altebrando should play a big role this year for Palmyra. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='916222' first='Xavier' last='Smith'] is a good defensive lineman who made an impact on the field for Palmyra last year. I expect an even bigger sophomore season for him. He does a nice job of engaging offensive linemen and then ripping through them to push them back. He shows a good ability to create pressure on offensive tackles. He then has a motor that never stops. Smith also uses his hands well when offensive linemen try to block him. He currently has no film, but he did attend some different camps this off-season so I watched him throw the ball. He is a classic pocket quarterback with excellent footwork and mechanics. Palmyra has a returning starting quarterback in Ryan Kowalski, but Russek could push him for the job. </p>    <p><strong>Final Thoughts: </strong>Palmyra has a ton of good players on both the line of scrimmage and the skilled positions. I expect they will improve this season from 2 wins they had last year. </p>
