Hansley-Roland entered the year on our radar thanks to some strong middle school performances, but I wasn’t certain he’d contribute early in high school. He’s already gotten extended action at the end of the Jack Britt game, showing surprising durability between the tackles and scoring a touchdown. He’s a tough runner who should continue to get better.

I cannot wait for Malaki Hansley-Roland to get away from 7v7 and start playing real football. Fundamentally, Hansley-Roland did not pin the ball to his body all that often, rather electing to hold it away from his body for the sake of making moves. That said, Hansley-Roland did have the presence of mind to switch the ball to his outside arm just about every time he changed directions when cutting.

Hansley-Roland was a player I only got to see a few reps of, and I wish I got more. He showcased solid footwork, and was a strong physical prospect in and out of cuts and drills. During 1v1 I saw him make a few catches, and he showed strong route running, and fluid hips allowing him to make sharp cuts with his routes.

A smooth mover in space, Malaki showed the ability to string together clean, efficient cuts without losing momentum. His agility stands out in particular, allowing him to slip through tight lanes and adjust quickly on the fly. At Rize, he consistently ran with a low pad level and demonstrated that he is decisive with the ball in his hands, makes him an effective, no hesitation runner once he identifies a crease.

Another player from North Carolina, is Malaki Hansley-Roland. The talented RB will attend Hoggard High School in the fall, and is one of three RB’s from outside the North East we will see this weekend. I am intrigued to see if the South overtakes the North when it comes to the Running Back position, especially on home turf for the North East in New Jersey.
