Barrett was dialed in on Friday and was on fire from the start. The offense went up and down the field as he made throw after throw. He’s good in the pocket and has the awareness you want. He was able to evade the rush a handful of times and keep his eyes downfield. He threw for 360 yards and 5 TDs as they blew out Marion 53-8.

Few freshmen had the year that Barrett had throwing the rock. Not only did he start as a freshman, but he showed that he’s going to be a good player for years to come. He makes good decisions, he’s got a quick release, and he’s accurate. Arguably most important, he doesn’t turn the ball over. 12 passing TDs to 1 interception on 64% completion is about as efficient as you can get on year 1. I’m hopeful to see a big year 2 from Barrett.

Barrett very quietly just had a great freshman year for Lafayette Jefferson and is going to get the spotlight he deserves. What he was able to do as a freshman and be so efficient with the ball is as promising of a future as anyone in the class so far. Barrett only started 5 games, but what he showed in those 5 games is worth highlighting. He’s a quick decision maker who knows where to go with the ball, where his outlets are, and does not turn the ball over. He throws as catch-able of a ball as you can get from a QB but doesn’t sacrifice any of his accuracy. 979 passing yards, 12 TDs, and he completed 64% of his throws while only throwing 1 interception. He’s young, he’s a bit raw, but he’s got the talent and football IQ to be successful for a long time.
