The players are typically tough, dedicated, and multi-sport athletes from small towns or rural communities. An impressive number of these student athletes, like Joe Burrow, go on to play at scholarship collegiate programs. Here are some of the top seniors from Southern Ohio to watch this season.
Will Futhey Will Futhey 6'5" | 210 lbs | TE Waverly | 2022 State OH 6’5” 205 WR Waverly
Futhey is a tall target who can catch anything thrown in his direction. Will is impressive running vertical routes with just enough speed to separate from pass defenders. He has good size for a wide receiver who can easily grow into a tight end at the next level.
Levi Gullion Levi Gullion 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Piketon | 2022 OH 6’3” 195 QB Piketon
Gullion runs the spread offense with precision. Levi has a quick release and can throw through small windows to get the football to his receivers. A big skilled athlete for the league he plays in, Gullion stands tall in the pocket and can take a hit. He also is impressive running the quarterback power.
Tristan Prater Tristan Prater 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Jackson | 2022 OH 6’1” 190 WR Jackson
A confident and sure handed wide receiver, Prater goes up to highpoint the football. He runs solid routes and has the courage to catch the football in a crowd across the middle. An agile athlete with excellent body control, Tristan can reach back across his body to make the reception.
Evan Spires Evan Spires 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Jackson | 2022 OH 6’1” 215 LB Jackson
Spires is a physical outside linebacker that can secure the perimeter against the outside run and cover the curl to flat zones versus the pass. He is a dominating player that shows extraordinary versatility by playing running back and quarterback as well as linebacker.
Grant Mastin Grant Mastin 6'1" | 225 lbs | LB Jackson | 2022 OH 6’1” 235 Jackson
With Spires on the outside and Mastin on the inside, opposing offenses have little chance of running the football. Mastin is a downhill attacking inside linebacker that causes a train wreck on contact. He is as good as there is between tackles, shedding blocks and delivering knockback hits.
Angelo Washington Angelo Washington 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Ironton | 2022 OH 6’2” 220 DL Ironton
Washington can line up as a defensive end or tackle. He is quick of the ball and does an excellent job with his hands in striking and disengaging from blocks. He also uses a variety of moves as the shrug, swim, and power techniques as a pass rusher.
Nathen Cochran Nathen Cochran 6'3" | 290 lbs | DL Ironton | 2022 OH 6’3” 290 DL Ironton
Big Nate is a powerful interior defensive lineman who bowls over opposing centers and guards. He is a mountain of a man with surprising lateral mobility for a 290 pounder. Cochran plays some defensive end, but he is destined to be a defensive tackle or middle guard.
Casey Hudson Casey Hudson 6'3" | 230 lbs | DL Proctorville Fairland | 2022 OH 6’3” 230 DE Proctorville Fairland
Hudson is one of those small school athletes that never comes off the field. He plays defensive end, offensive guard, and is in on special teams. He is quick reactor coming off the edge at the defensive end position. Hudson squeezes on the run but can turn upfield instinctively to rush the passer.
