Joshua is a kid who really blew up this spring as a big time DB, and it shows why he committed to Kansas State University. What stands out is how comfortable he looks in coverage he reads routes well, reacts quick when the ball’s in the air, and isn’t afraid to compete at the catch point. He’s got that confident edge to him, plays physical when he needs to.
Vilmael possesses incredible size for the position with the speed and athleticim to match. Listed a 6’3, 180, Vilmael is a real problem for opposing offenses. He plays with great instincts, trusting his eyes and making plays with his natural talents. Vilmael shows incredible recovery skills, forcing QBs to be perfect on throws. Any off-target throw results in a turnover or near-interception. Vilmael is physical at the line of scrimmage, knocking receivers off their path early while maintaining his leverage. He has also shown to be an exceptional defender in the run game, cutting backs down for little to no gains. He has shown for multiple seasons now how impactful he can be in any phase of the game and is a top player in the area because of that.
Joshua had a very impressive showing at the camp, standing out as a defensive back with speed, instincts, and technical skill. In coverage drills, he stayed low and balanced, mirroring receivers with smooth footwork while keeping his eyes on the quarterback and anticipating routes.
Joshua brings a confident presence in the secondary, showing the ability to anticipate movement and position himself where the play is headed rather than where it started. He stays composed under pressure and does a good job using angles to limit yards after the catch. His change-of-direction ability helps him adjust to double moves and improvised routes, and he competes hard at the catch point. Joshua’s mix of poise, spatial awareness, and steady technique allows him to consistently hold his ground against a variety of matchups.
