Genova was arguably the best defensive player on JSerra’s roster last season, tallying 84 tackles, 9 hurries and 3 forced fumbles en route to All-Trinity League and All-County honors. He was on pace to possibly become the all-time leading tackler at JSerra.
In a recent interview with Prep Redzone, he said he connected very strongly with Army assistant coach and special teams coordinator Sean Saturnio.
Genova is the second linebacker from California in Army’s 2021 recruiting class, joining Tyler Deleon from Los Alamitos High.

The top lineman in the state is staying home
Josh Simmons Josh Simmons 6'6" | 285 lbs | OL Helix | 2021 State CA , the top offensive lineman in the state according to Prep Redzone, announced his commitment to San Diego State last Tuesday.
Simmons goes to Helix (La Mesa) and staying close to home was important to him.
“San Diego State recruited me harder than anyone,” Simmons told Greg Biggins of 247Sports. “They’re close to home so there’s some advantages with that. I’m really close with my mom so having her close by was really important for me.”
Early in his recruitment, Simmons told colleges that he only wanted to play defensive line at the college level which caused a few schools to back off on recruiting him. He later said that he will play wherever he is asked to in college.
He connected with San Diego State offensive line coach Mike Schmidt and it appears he will likely play offensive line there.
Simmons has the versatility to be a great tackle at the next level or go inside and play guard. He has the talent to play early at San Diego State and the upside to play on Sundays.
He is the third offensive lineman from California in San Diego State’s 2021 class, including Ross Maseuli Ross Maseuli 6'3" | 335 lbs | OL Mater Dei | 2021 State CA of Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and Christian Jones of San Luis Obispo.
Cal lands St. John Bosco transfer
Ieremia Moore of St. John Bosco (Bellflower) committed to Cal on Sunday.
He is a rugby player from New Zealand with very limited football experience and zero high school game film. But he has impressed at various camps, taking home the defensive linemen MVP at the SoCal National Preps Showcase in November.
Moore is 6-foot-4, 270 pounds and is a defensive end but could be an outside backer in a 3-4 scheme. He is extremely athletic for his big frame.
“They like me as a hybrid outside linebacker in a 3-4 but I can also play defensive end or a 3-tech in a 4-3 so I’m really excited about my decision,” Moore told Biggins. “”They really wanted to see me play this season but unfortunately we didn’t get to have a fall season. After the December Signing Day, they decided they wanted to take a chance on me, even without seeing me play.”
Moore is one of five defensive end types from California in Cal’s 2021 class, including Derek Wilkins Derek Wilkins 6'4" | 255 lbs | DL Santa Margarita Catholic | 2021 State CA of Santa Margarita, Akili Calhoun Akili Calhoun 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL Liberty | 2021 State CA of Liberty (Brentwood), Kaleb Elarms-Orr Kaleb Elarms-Orr 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Moreau Catholic | 2021 State CA of Moreau Catholic (Hayward) and Myles Williams Myles Williams 6'3" | 250 lbs | DL Bishop Alemany | 2021 State CA of Alemany (Mission Hills).
