We now have a better understanding of which teams are genuinely talented, which teams may have had a stroke of luck in the first few weeks, and which teams are looking to improve for next season. I will provide a preview for each game in week 7 by conference for the 5A level. The Midwestern League is up next. Each game will include a prediction and highlight some players from each team to watch based on their recent performances.
South Eugene (2-4) @ #5 Thurston (4-2)
Prediction: Thurston def. South Eugene 58-7.
Thurston has been performing exceptionally well lately, and they are coming off a dominating win against a highly capable Eagle Point team. Therefore, they should face no difficulties in dealing with South Eugene this week at home. It is expected that the Colts will take control of the game early on and come away with another victory, extending their winning streak to five.

Willamette (0-6) @ #8 Springfield (5-1)
Prediction: Springfield def. Willamette 49-6.
This will be another blowout as the top teams in the Midwestern League with Thurston and Springfield facing two of the bottom feeders this week. Willamette has some talent, but will most likely go winless this year in this tough conference. Expect the lineman for Springfield to dominate in this one and RB Connor Dye Connor Dye 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Springfield | 2024 State OR to have another monster game.

Highlights
Churchill (2-4) @ North Eugene (2-4)
Prediction: Churchill def. North Eugene 38-16.
Churchill’s talented squad has had a difficult time due to a challenging schedule. In addition to a tough conference, their two out-of-conference games were against Marist Catholic, the #3 team in 4A, and the #3 team in 5A, Mountain View. Despite their record, they’re actually a better team than they appear to be and should easily win their upcoming game against North Eugene.

Crater (2-4) @ Eagle Point (3-3)
Prediction: Eagle Point def. Crater 34-20.
I am most excited about this game from this conference because I want to see how good Crater really is. Although three of their four losses were against superior teams, I want to see if they are at Eagle Point’s level. Eagle Point has a solid squad and usually beats the teams they are supposed to, but they are coming off a rough loss to Thurston last week. I think Eagle Point will win this game as it is their homecoming game and they should be fired up to make a playoff push.
