#1 (Last Week #1) Oak Grove (4-0)
The Warriors put another notch in one of the most impressive resumes in the state by beating the top MAIS team in MRA. It took overtime to do so, but a win is a win.
Last week: Beat MRA 45-44 OT
This week: vs. Laurel
#2 (#3) Tupelo (4-0)
Wake up if you aren’t paying attention. The Golden Wave defense is nasty and has only given up two touchdowns on the year. Tupelo hammered rival foe Oxford last week.
Last week: Beat Oxford 49-7
This week: @ Houston (Tenn)
#3 (#5) Louisville (4-0)
The win of the week belongs to the Wildcats after going into Starkville and beating the Yellow Jackets on their home turf. Gutsy, come from behind victory. As expected Louisville is big, physical and nasty.
Last week: Beat #5 Starkville 26-22
This week: @ Noxubee County
#4 (#6) Picayune (3-1)
Larger class Gulfport gave the Maroon Tide all they wanted last week, but it was not enough. Picayune is back rolling again folks. Another test against a larger class opponent is on deck.
Last week: Beat Gulfport 28-21
This week: vs. Ocean Springs
#5 (#2) Starkville (3-1)
The Jackets are the biggest faller this week down to number 5. Simply put, the Jackets were out toughed and out played in the trenches by smaller class Louisville last week. That shows a bit of concern. No time to drag your head with the Little Egg bowl up next.
Last week: Lost to #3 Louisivlle 26-22
This week: vs. Oxford
#6 (#7) Pearl (4-0)
The Pirates continue to be one of the top surprises so far of 2023 as they continue taking care of business and rising the ranks.
Last week: Beat Ridgeland 45-7
This week: @ Germantown
#7 (#4) Madison Central (3-1)
Just when everyone was ready to jump on the Jag bandwagon they come up short to rival Northwest Rankin. Another definite test this week.
Last week: Lost to #9 Northwest Rankin 28-21
This week: vs. Warren Central
#8 (#9) Holmes County (4-0)
Holmes County didn’t even have to take the field in Week 4 to rise in the rankings due to all the attrition around them.
Last week: Beat Hazlehurst (Forfeit)
This week: @ Florence
#9 (NR) Northwest Rankin (3-1)
A massive rivalry win will bring you back into the rankings when it happens at the right time. That is exactly what beating Madison Central last week did for NWR.
Last week: Beat Madison Central 28-21
This week: vs. Brookhaven
#10 (NR) West Jones (4-0)
Let’s welcome West Jones to the power rankings for the first time in 2023 with their undefeated slate. The Mustang defense looks to make them a contender in 6A again this year.
Last week: beat Wayne County 41-7
This week: @ Poplarville
