The tight end position requires more than just catching passes, and the Class of 2028 has plenty of guys showing they can handle different responsibilities on the field. Whether it's getting their hands dirty in the run game, creating separation against linebackers, or becoming a reliable target when their quarterback needs one, these young TEs are finding ways to contribute. Some are already showing the ability to stretch the field, while others are making their impact closer to the line of scrimmage. As we continue breaking down film, there are several names worth keeping an eye on as they develop their game and show what they can bring to an offense.

Koleman is the type of tight end you would love to have on your team because of the different ways he can be used offensively. When you turn on his film, you can see how comfortable he looks running routes from a two-point stance, getting into his breaks, and giving his quarterback a reliable target. He doesn't have to line up in one spot to make things happen, either. You can split him out wide and allow him to work against defenders in space, where he shows confidence in his route running and ability to get open. What also stands out is his willingness to block. He doesn't shy away from getting his hands on defenders and doing the dirty work in the run game. Having a TE who feels comfortable catching passes, lining up outside, and blocking gives an offense plenty of options, and that's what makes Koleman an interesting prospect to follow.

Weston brings some impressive speed to the tight end position, and that's one of the first things that catches your attention when watching his film. For a player at his position, he moves well in the open field and has the ability to get downfield in a hurry. What I like about Weston is how he can challenge defenders vertically, especially linebackers who may have trouble keeping up with him once he gets going. He does a nice job accelerating out of his routes and creating opportunities for his quarterback to find him downfield. Once the ball is in his hands, he has the speed to pick up extra yards and turn a short completion into something bigger. As he continues developing, that speed will be something defenses have to respect.

Sloan is another tight end in the 2028 class who brings some interesting qualities to the position. One thing I like about his game is how he can give his quarterback another option in the passing attack, especially when working across the middle of the field. He understands the importance of finding open areas in coverage and putting himself in a position to make a catch. I also like the way he can be used closer to the line of scrimmage, where he has opportunities to help in the run game and work his way into routes off play-action. There's plenty of room for Sloan to continue growing as an all-around tight end, but he has the tools to become a valuable piece of an offense.

With 11 receptions for 235 yards and 4 total touchdowns, he's averaging over 21 yards per catch, which says a lot about the type of threat he can be in the passing game. What I like about Jaxson is how he can attack the seams and make linebackers uncomfortable when they're matched up against him. He has the ability to build speed as he gets into his routes, work past the second level of the defense, and give his quarterback a target over the top. He's also someone who can be moved around offensively, whether that's lining up attached to the offensive line or splitting out to create a different matchup. He can fight through contact while running his routes and put himself in a good position to make catches, especially when working in tighter areas of the field. I also like how he can be a factor in the red zone, where having a bigger target gives the quarterback another option when space becomes limited. As a blocker, Ben has the opportunity to make an impact by getting into defenders, maintaining his leverage, and helping open up running lanes.
Caleb is a tight end who immediately catches your attention because of his 6'7" frame, and having that type of size at the position gives him a lot to work with. One thing I like about Caleb's potential is how difficult he can be to match up against, especially when he's working against smaller defensive backs or linebackers in coverage. At his height, he has the opportunity to become a big target for his quarterback, particularly in the red zone, where he can use his length to go up and compete for passes. Another area where his size can come into play is along the line of scrimmage. With his reach, Caleb has the tools to get his hands on defenders early and help control the edge in the running game.

Thomas is someone I'd like to see get opportunities to work the middle of the field, where tight ends can make some of their biggest contributions. There are times when a quarterback needs a receiver who can make himself available between defenders rather than trying to get behind the entire secondary. With Thomas, I'd be watching how he reads coverage, adjusts his route, and positions himself for the throw. Catching the football with defenders closing in is another part of the position that takes confidence. Those situations can tell you a lot about a young TE's game.

Gabe is a tight end I'd like to evaluate in situations where the offense uses play-action. That's where a TE can make things difficult for defenders by initially looking like he's staying in to block before slipping into an open area. The timing of that release is important, and so is understanding where the linebackers are moving. I'd also pay attention to Gabe's ability to work along the sideline and adjust to throws that aren't directly on target. Developing those details can give a tight end more opportunities to make plays throughout a game.

Lucas is a player whose growth at the tight end position will be interesting to monitor, especially when it comes to what happens after the catch. Some tight ends are capable of doing more than simply securing the football and going down. I'd like to see how Lucas handles turning upfield, protecting the ball through contact, and fighting for additional yardage. Another area worth watching is how he approaches defenders in space when he's asked to lead block on outside runs or screens. Those situations require good angles and an understanding of where the play is developing.

Will is a tight end who understands the importance of doing the little things that help his team offensively, especially when it comes to blocking. What I like about his game is that he's not afraid to get physical at the line of scrimmage and take on defenders when his number is called. Whether it's sealing off the edge, getting his hands on a defender, or helping create running lanes, Will is willing to do the dirty work that doesn't always show up on the stat sheet. Another thing that makes him interesting is his ability to contribute on the defensive side of the football as well. Playing both ways gives him the opportunity to show his physicality from different angles, whether he's trying to keep defenders out of the backfield or working to get off blocks and make a tackle himself.

The Class of 2028 has some talented tight ends who are showing that there's much more to the position than just catching passes. From guys who can stretch the field and create mismatches to those who aren't afraid to get physical in the trenches, there's a good mix of talent worth paying attention to. What I like about this group is that each player brings something different to the table, whether it's size, speed, blocking ability, or versatility on both sides of the football. Some are already finding their rhythm, while others are still learning the position and getting better with every opportunity. With plenty of high school football still ahead of them, it'll be interesting to see which of these 2028 TEs take that next big step in their development. One thing is certain: this is a group we'll continue keeping tabs on as their games evolve.

When you turn on his film, you can see how comfortable he looks running routes…
