After Friday's matchups, the season will be 40% complete and we're beginning to see teams create some separation as the non-region schedule gets into the final weeks before we hit region play at the start of October.

There are teams who have been trying to find their identity on both sides of the ball, and they've taken their lumps over the past few weeks but a win this week could go a long way in boosting their confidence. And on the other hand, there are teams that have established what they want to do, they are just trying to polish it and be consistent from week-to-week.

This week's matchups in the Catawba River Region will showcase that as we've got two cross county matchups and a city rivalry that has everyone locally, and around the state talking.

BOILING SPRINGS (3-0) AT CLOVER (1-2) – THURSDAY

The Bulldogs are coming off a huge comeback win over Catawba Ridge last week. [player_tooltip player_id='1819429' first='Imri' last='Logan'] had a touchdown on the ground and threw a touchdown to [player_tooltip player_id='1665369' first='Djay' last='Leak'] to take the lead. Logan's ability to create things with his legs will be something to watch when a play breaks down, like when he found RJ Byrd for an early score. Keep an eye on [player_tooltip player_id='1466577' first='Deion' last='Suber'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2237518' first='Jadyn' last='Jones'] at receiver. [player_tooltip player_id='1036731' first='Dennis' last='Glenn'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1821923' first='CJ' last='Birk'] will be some of the guys to watch defensively as well.

The Blue Eagles are coming off a tough 18-10 loss to Palisades out of Charlotte last week. They'll be looking to right the ship and get in gear offensively with [player_tooltip player_id='1407416' first='Aaron' last='Shealey'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1603816' first='Grady' last='Stone']. Keep an eye on Collin Bean and [player_tooltip player_id='2150843' first='Legend' last='Smart'] in the receiving game. Damien Talford is an enforcer at the linebacker position and can line up on the defensive line and affect the game. Najah Potts and [player_tooltip player_id='1820494' first='Jake' last='Frantz'] who had a pick six against Westwood a few weeks ago are some guys to watch defensively as well.

FORT MILL (2-0) AT YORK (2-1)

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a bye last week after a strong, early start to the season with wins over Clover and Catawba Ridge. [player_tooltip player_id='1266099' first='Broden' last='Mitcheson'] (pictured above) has been the catalyst on offense for Fort Mill, averaging 104 yards per game. [player_tooltip player_id='1820446' first='Jameson' last='Terrell'] is the guy at receiver as he has 130 yards and three touchdowns on the young season. [player_tooltip player_id='2075873' first='Harper' last='Love'] has been a steady presence at the quarterback position, throwing for 439 yards so far along with five touchdowns. Aiden Welch leads the Yellow Jackets in tackles with 19 with [player_tooltip player_id='1820448' first='Andrew' last='Kowalski'] in second with 14 tackles.

The Cougars routed Richland Northeast 48-11 last week, and had a big night from quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='379090' first='Ryan' last='Brochu'] who threw two touchdowns to [player_tooltip player_id='1819743' first='Brian' last='Davis'] and Zee Isom. [player_tooltip player_id='1822266' first='Caleb' last='Sanders'] can help keep the Cougars offense on schedule at running back with his good combo of speed and power. [player_tooltip player_id='1881803' first='Ta'Mir' last='Thrower'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1816753' first='Caiden' last='Tino'] will be guys to watch at receiver as well. [player_tooltip player_id='1824661' first='TJ' last='Bratton'] can play on either side of the ball on the defensive line, and is a big target at tight end. [player_tooltip player_id='1819733' first='Jah'Maud' last='Moore'] is the leader on defense to watch at linebacker.

LEWISVILLE (0-3) AT CHESTER (1-2)

These two schools are separated by 14 miles and haven't played each other in a while. That will change Friday as they both are looking for an important win. The Lions are 0-3 and desperately need a win, and they put up a hard fought effort against Chesterfield last week. AJ Price had two rushing touchdowns of 30 and 35 yards. He had over 100 yards rushing and [player_tooltip player_id='1823986' first='Zion' last='Harris'] had a fumble recovery for a score. Matthew Cousar will be a guy to watch offensively as he connected with Cedric Spence for a long touchdown. If they can produce that level of offense this week, the chances of them breaking through and getting win No. 1 on the year are better.

Chester got in the win column last week with a 22-6 win over Union County last week. [player_tooltip player_id='1603999' first='Caleb' last='Feaster'] found the end zone twice and will likely get the bulk of the load offensively for the Cyclones this week. Keep an eye on Jakobe Starkes who can make plays on both sides of the ball as well as [player_tooltip player_id='1603965' first='Luke' last='Reed'] who is a force to be reckoned with on the defensive line.

SOUTH POINTE (2-0) AT ROCK HILL (3-0)

The game of the night in the Catawba River Region, and likely the state, will take place at District Three Stadium in Rock Hill with plenty of star power that will be on both sides of the ball. For Rock Hill, the Bearcats offense has been averaging 36 points per game and they're coming off an impressive 33-9 win over Hilton Head on the road. [player_tooltip player_id='1822769' first='Jalen' last='Culp'] took over at quarterback for the injured [player_tooltip player_id='1816896' first='Jonah' last='Young'] who got hurt against Ashley Ridge a few weeks ago. Culp looked sharp, throwing two touchdowns to Kam Wilson (25 yards) and [player_tooltip player_id='1816894' first='Myles' last='Brooks'] (81 yards). [player_tooltip player_id='1603697' first='Zymier' last='Gordon-Miles'] (49 yard run) [player_tooltip player_id='1088328' first='Nigel' last='Lightner'] (60 yard run) [player_tooltip player_id='1036779' first='Kaiden' last='Watkins'] (66 yards) all found the end zone offensively. That explosiveness will be key against a South Pointe defense that has been stingy over the first two ball games, only allowing 7 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1301740' first='Ra'Sean' last='Brown'] scored three touchdowns in the Stallions last outing, a 49-7 win over Lake Wylie. One of which was a 77-yard touchdown run. He will be the focal point of the Stallions offense along with quarterback Braydon Waldon who can make plays on the ground, like he did last week while getting the ball to [player_tooltip player_id='2256143' first='King' last='Davis'] and [player_tooltip player_id='422544' first='Jamil' last='Watson']. [player_tooltip player_id='1591712' first='Seth' last='Tillman'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2254211' first='Josh' last='McClure'] will look to neutralize the explosiveness of the Bearcats and limit the big plays.

Whichever team can create turnovers and make plays on special teams will likely win this one.

After Friday's matchups, the season will be 40% complete and we're beginning to see teams create some separation as the non-region schedule gets into the final weeks before we hit region play at the start of October.
