Week 5 is where the season starts to get real.

We have undefeated teams trying to keep their momentum, ranked programs fighting to stay in the Top 25, and several teams sitting in that spot where one more loss could completely change the way we view them heading into the second half of the season.

There are a ton of games I'm watching this week, but these are the ones that stand out the most.

Seminole vs. Mainland

Seminole has quietly put together one of the better starts in Central Florida. The Seminoles are 4-0 and have scored 119 points while allowing just 44 through four games. Now they head to Daytona to take on a Mainland team that has already shown it can make things interesting against quality competition. Seminole has the consistency right now, but Mainland has the athletes to make this a real test. This is one of those games where I want to see if Seminole can continue playing like a team that belongs in the conversation with the better 6A programs in the state.

Port Charlotte vs. South Fort Myers — Battle of the 941

This is a really interesting matchup.

Port Charlotte is coming off a 35-6 win over Dunbar and now gets South Fort Myers in a game that should have plenty of playmakers on both sides. The Pirates are 2-2, but don't let the record fool you. They have already played Clearwater Central Catholic and The First Academy, and now they get a South Fort Myers team that enters unbeaten at 3-0.

Port Charlotte also gets a huge weapon back in WR [player_tooltip player_id='2137667' first='Elias' last='Pearl'], giving FSU quarterback commit [player_tooltip player_id='1158090' first='Logan' last='Flaherty'] one of his top targets back in the lineup. That duo was one of the more productive QB/WR combinations in Southwest Florida last season, and Flaherty has already shown he can take over games with both his arm and his legs. South Fort Myers has been rolling, and its athletic quarterback gives the Wolfpack a chance to make this a really fun Battle of the 941.

Spruce Creek vs. Dunbar

This one is really interesting because Dunbar was one of the hottest teams in the state before dropping its last two games. The Fighting Tigers opened the year with back-to-back wins of 70-0 and 56-13 before losing to Cape Coral and Port Charlotte. Now they get a Spruce Creek team that is 3-0 and has looked solid early.

There is talent all over the field in this one, but this feels like a must-win for Dunbar. Another loss puts the Tigers in a much different position than where they were two weeks ago. Spruce Creek, meanwhile, has a chance to make a statement against a team that many people expected to be one of Southwest Florida's better programs.

Evans vs. St. Augustine

Oh my.

Evans has already had a rough stretch, losing close games to Jones and Winter Park after opening the season with a big win over Boone. Now the Trojans have to travel to take on a St. Augustine team that is 4-0 and averaging nearly 40 points per game.

The Yellow Jackets are one of the better programs in North Florida and they have been handling business early, including wins over Nease and Middleburg. Evans has enough talent to make this interesting, but there is no question the pressure is on. You can't afford to keep stacking losses when you have the type of roster Evans has.

Manatee vs. Riverview Sarasota

I'm ready for this one.

This has all the ingredients for a really good football game. Both teams are 3-1, both have talented quarterbacks, both have legitimate weapons at wide receiver and both have enough up front to make this a physical game. Manatee is averaging 417.7 total yards per game while Riverview Sarasota is at 430.5. The Rams are also averaging nearly 294 passing yards per game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2376745' first='Nolan' last='Downes'] has been impressive for Manatee, while Logan Carillo has been one of the state's more productive quarterbacks and currently sits near the top of the state passing leaderboard. This one could come down to defense and execution late. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a four-quarter game.

Clearwater Central Catholic vs. St. Petersburg Catholic

Big-time matchup, man.

I would be at this one if not for a can't-miss local game.

This is a movie matchup. CCC is unbeaten at 3-0 and has already shown it can handle a strong schedule, while St. Pete Catholic brings one of the state's leading senior quarterbacks in Chase Burrill, who currently has 1,137 passing yards and 10 touchdowns.

No more time for talk or speculation. Let's see if SPC can bump it out with the Marauders.

(21) Jones vs. Edgewater

This is a huge Central Florida matchup.

Jones enters at 2-1 and ranked No. 21, while Edgewater is 2-2 after a disappointing loss to Lake Nona. The Eagles need a response, and Jones has a chance to continue proving it belongs among the better teams in the area.

For Edgewater, this is about getting back on track. The talent is there. The question is whether the Eagles can put everything together for four quarters against a Jones team that has already shown it can play with good competition.

(25) Armwood vs. Sumner

Wooo.

Armwood is getting a test here.

Sumner already knocked off a really good Gaither team this season, and now the Stingrays get one of the state's most recognizable programs. Armwood is 3-1 and has bounced back nicely with consecutive shutouts after the loss to West Boca, while Sumner comes in 3-1.

This is it for the Hawks in terms of early in-state games. You can't lose these games if you're trying to establish yourself as one of the best teams in the state. Sumner is young but talented, and this is a chance for that group to make a serious statement.

(17) Lake Wales vs. Osceola

The Highlanders have some of the biggest stock in the state right now.

Lake Wales is 3-1, ranked No. 17 and coming off a dominant district win. Now the Highlanders get an Osceola team that was dismantled by DeLand last week and desperately needs a response. Lake Wales is averaging 441.8 total yards per game, including 237.3 rushing yards and 204.5 through the air.

Can Lake Wales repeat what DeLand did to Osceola? Or do the Kowboys bounce back and remind everybody why they entered the season with serious expectations? This is a really good measuring-stick game for Lake Wales.

(18) Columbia vs. Trinity Christian

Columbia is 4-0 and sitting at No. 18 in the state, but this is not a game I would overlook.

Trinity Christian is 2-2 and has already played a brutal early schedule, including a 42-40 overtime loss to ED White and a 15-14 overtime loss to American Heritage. The Conquerors have been in close games all season, and they have enough talent to make Columbia work.

Columbia has been one of the more consistent teams in the state through four weeks. Now the Tigers get another opportunity to prove that undefeated record is more than just a good start.

(24) Buchholz vs. Jesuit

Big-boy football.

The Bobcats are 4-0 and ranked No. 24, while Jesuit comes in unbeaten at 3-0 and has already scored 113 points while allowing just 28. Jesuit has also handled three very different tests, including a 37-0 win over SFA and a 24-21 win over Vanguard.

Buchholz is loading up in the trenches, but they'll meet two dudes I want to see in this environment in [player_tooltip player_id='1419103' first='Kaden' last='Henderson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1909443' first='Tripp' last='Keller']. This is the type of game where the line of scrimmage and defensive execution are going to tell us a lot.

(12) Tampa Bay Tech vs. Gaither

This is another really good Tampa Bay matchup.

Tampa Bay Tech is 4-0 and ranked No. 12 after absolutely destroying Plant 48-0 last week. The Titans have allowed just 16 points all season. Gaither is 3-1 and has already beaten Plant this season before falling to Sumner.

Gaither has plenty of talent, including quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='865757' first='Daniel' last='Terry'], a dual-threat transfer who threw for 2,578 yards and 23 touchdowns while adding 364 rushing yards and eight scores last season at Wiregrass Ranch. TBT's defense has been lights out, though, and this is a major test of just how good that unit really is.

(1) IMG Academy vs. (14) The First Academy

This is the heavyweight fight of the Orlando area.

IMG has been exactly what you'd expect so far, entering 3-0 and having outscored opponents 159-13. The Ascenders are coming off a 41-0 shutout of St. Louis and now head to Orlando to take on a TFA team that is also unbeaten at 4-0.

TFA has quietly put together a really strong start, including wins over Dr. Phillips, Evans and Port Charlotte before blanking South Lake 42-0 last week. This is TFA's chance to shut some people up. IMG gets a chance to flex its muscle against one of the state's hottest teams.

Either way, I'm watching closely.

(9) Lakeland vs. (6) American Heritage —

GAME OF THE WEEK

My game of the week.

Neither program can afford to lose this game.

Lakeland comes in 2-1 and ranked No. 9, while American Heritage is 2-2 and ranked No. 6. Heritage has already played West Boca, East St. Louis, Chaminade-Madonna and Trinity Christian. Lakeland has had its own difficult start, and now these two programs finally meet in a game that carries serious weight for the rest of the season.

American Heritage has the talent to make a run, but two losses already means the margin for error is getting smaller. Lakeland is in the same boat. If you're talking about a Top 8 finish and a chance to make noise when the postseason arrives, this is one of those games you simply cannot lose.

There are big-time players all over the field, and I expect this one to feel like playoff football.

Wow. Movie.

Week 5 is where the season starts to get real.
