Skiatook Bulldogs OK 2026 Team Preview

In 2023, the Bulldogs went 1-9. Pearson took over in 2024 and they would go 3-7. In 2025, they took another step in a positive direction but will be looking to start strong and more importantly finish strong in 2026. The Bulldogs certainly started strong in 2025. They went unbeaten in non-district play, lost the district opener to Cushing but then bounced back with two straight wins. Skiatook went into Fall Break's week seven with a 5-1 record and they were in the mix for a playoff spot. But things fell off from there. They lost by 20 points to Fort Gibson in week seven and then lost a heart breaker to Oologah in week eight. They let one slip away against Wagoner and then lost 57-29 in the regular season finale to Grove. They were sitting pretty with a 5-1 record but then dropped their final four games to finish the season at 5-5. Despite a tough finish to the season, Skiatook still took a positive step in the right direction. Building a program back up to consistent winning football doesn't happen overnight. The Bulldogs are learning how to win and now, as they enter the 2026 season, not only do they expect to take another step in the right direction, they expect that positive step to be one where they get back in the mix for one of the four playoff spots in a very competitive district.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2026 OUTLOOK</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>If Skiatook takes another step in the right direction, they should be in the mix for a playoff spot and we think that there is a possibility that they do just that. Offensively, the Bulldogs bring back four starters but the strength is going to start on the line of scrimmage. Skiatook has a really talented group up front and one that has a mix of talented upperclassmen and very promising underclassmen with high ceilings. The Bulldogs should be improved on that side of the ball if this offseason was any indication. We were impressed with Skiatook when we got a chance to watch them in person back in the spring. And defensively, the Bulldogs also bring back four starters and have the potential to be improved on that side of the ball. The 2025 point differential for Skiatook was interesting as they scored only nine points more than their opponents last season. They look to expand that number in a major way this season. Now, the schedule sets up where the Bulldogs need to start fast as it looks like it has completely flipped. Most of Skiatook's toughest district games in 2025 were in the last few weeks. You can make a strong argument that the four toughest district opponents they face will all be in the first four weeks. If they get a win or two during that stretch, they will be in good shape. If they stumble to start district play, they will be fighting an uphill battle for the rest of the season. The Bulldogs have missed the playoffs the last five seasons. [player_tooltip player_id='1831579' first='Brody' last='Branscum'] got into a couple games last season and was able to produce but he has had an unreal offseason. Whether it was in spring ball or passing leagues this summer, Branscum brings a lot to the table for this Skiatook offense. His passing skills are very good but he also brings a running ability as a bigger quarterback. Skiatook had a senior running back that had over 140 carries last season but Fudge got plenty of playing time as a freshman. He finished up with nearly 90 carries and had a handful of touchdowns. He joins Branscum in the backfield as a guy who is expected to have a much bigger workload this season. It was a strong spring and summer for Oleson and he feels like a 2027 prospect that is right on the verge of picking up a D1 offer and things could snowball from there. When we got a chance to watch Oleson in person back in the spring, it's hard not to be impressed with his overall skillset on the line of scrimmage. The young buck started for the Bulldogs last season as a freshman and will be a four-year starter by the time it's all said and done. And the thing that is very impressive about him is how much he looks the part already from a physical standpoint. Just being a sophomore, there is still room for him to grow physically and on the football field. He led the team in receptions with nearly 50, yards with nearly 600 and was tied for the most receiving touchdowns. Now, we mentioned what kind of spring and summer Branscum has had throwing the ball. Godfrey has been on the other end of that and so there is no doubt that he is going to be the top target in the Skiatook passing game this season. So don't be surprised if his production absolutely explodes this fall. He's another young playmaker to remember moving forward.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>MORE NAMES TO KNOW</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brady Womack - 2029 Tight End/Linebacker<br>[player_tooltip player_id='1831576' first='George' last='Vernon Richins III'] - 2028 Offensive/Defensive Lineman<br>[player_tooltip player_id='1837811' first='Kaden' last='Brown'] - 2027 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back<br>[player_tooltip player_id='1837814' first='Rylan' last='Akers'] - 2029 Offensive/Defensive Lineman<br>Tavian Kirkwood - 2028 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back<br>[player_tooltip player_id='2230690' first='Zalor' last='Garner'] - 2030 Running Back</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2026 SCHEDULE</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Aug. 28th - AT Bartlesville</strong><br>- The 2026 football season kicks off with a road game against Bartlesville in week zero. The Bulldogs haven't faced the Bruins in over a decade. They met every year in non-district play from 2010-2013 and the Bruins were 3-1 against Skiatook during that stretch. They'll have a new head coach this year that turns programs around instantly.<br><strong>Sept. 4th - Glenpool</strong><br>- Skiatook's home opener comes in week one when they host Glenpool. These two teams have met in non-district play for the last decade. They've met every year since 2016. In the last ten regular season meetings, Skiatook has a 7-3 record against Glenpool, including the last two meetings. Both of those wins were by seven points or less.<br><strong>Sept. 11th - Memorial</strong><br>- The non-district slate wraps up in week two with a home game against Memorial. This will be the third straight year the Bulldogs face the Chargers in non-district play. The last two meetings have been dominant wins by Skiatook. They won 34-0 in 2024 and followed that up with a 53-12 victory over the Chargers last season.<br><strong>Sept. 25th - Cushing</strong><br>- After a week off, Skiatook returns to the field in week four to open district play against Cushing. This will be the third straight year that the Bulldogs open district play against the Tigers and they are hungry to turn things around in this series. Cushing became a district foe for Skiatook in 2022 and they enter this season with an 0-4 record against the Tigers.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 2nd - AT Wagoner</strong><br>- After playing every game in September at home, Skiatook goes on the road in week five to face Wagoner. In this battle of Bulldogs, Skiatook will look to turn things around against Wagoner. They've lost eight straight to Wagoner, with the last win coming over two decades ago in 2004. To be a playoff team, this is a game that you have to win.<br><strong>Oct. 9th - Grove</strong><br>- Skiatook hosts Grove in week six in another district game that could end up making or breaking their playoff chances. These two have been district foes off and on for the last six seasons. Skiatook beat Grove 42-21 in 2020 but it's been all Grove since then. In the last three meetings, the Ridgeruners are 3-0, winning each game by 28 points or more.<br><strong>Oct. 15th - AT Fort Gibson</strong><br>- On a Fall Break Thursday night in week seven, Skiatook hits the road to face Fort Gibson in another critical district contest for a playoff spot. The Tigers have been a district opponent in each of the last two seasons and they won both by 20 points or more. For Skiatook, they need to turn things around in this series.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 23rd - Oologah</strong><br>- Skiatook's final home game in the regular season comes in week eight when they host Oologah. These two teams are very familiar with one another, as they've met every year since 2010. Whether it's been non-district play or district action, Oologah is one of the more consistent opponents on Skiatook's schedule. The Bulldogs look to snap a six-game skid in the series.<br><strong>Oct. 30th - AT Cleveland</strong><br>- Skiatook goes to Cleveland in week nine for the first of two straight road games to wrap up the regular season. Cleveland is back in Skiatook's district after spending the last two seasons in Class 3A. They were district foes from 2020-2023 and split that district series with two wins apiece. Cleveland won the last meeting 24-13 in 2023.<br><strong>Nov. 6th - AT Miami</strong><br>- The regular season comes to an end in week ten when Skiatook heads to northeastern Oklahoma to face Miami. This is the seventh straight year these two have faced off in district play. Last season, Skiatook's 21-14 win over the Wardogs snapped a three-game losing streak to Miami. During the last six meetings, each team is 3-3.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>NOTABLE</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We're not far removed from Skiatook being a consistent contender and it happened when they were in Class 5A football. In 2014, Skiatook made a run to the state championship game. In a four-year stretch from 2014-2017, the Bulldogs made it to the semifinals on three different occasions. So this is a program that has played winning football at a very high level not that long ago. But Skiatook has missed the playoffs in each of the last five seasons and it's the longest playoff drought in over 15 years. Head coach Preston Pearson is used to winning and winning at a high level. He was a longtime assistant coach at Union and also turned Putnam City into a contender in 6A-2 nearly a decade ago. There is reason to be very optimistic about Skiatook football moving forward. Pearson has this thing going in the right direction and the classes that are coming up have all experienced winning at a high level for their grade.
