Sights and Sounds: Week 2 (Gadsden-Capital Video/Recap)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>SANTA FE</strong> – Gadsden ultimately took care of business following a long five-hour trip up I-25 to Jaguars Stadium in the state's capitol.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>But it took the Panthers a while to get going in their dominant 62-8 mercy-rule win over Capital on a sun-splashed Saturday afternoon. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Gadsden had a sluggish start, leading just 8-0 early in the second quarter before they shifted into a higher gear. After converting on fourth down in the red zone, Gadsden scored a rushing touchdown to take a 16-0 lead.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On Capital's ensuing possession, Gadsden intercepted a Jaguars pass and converted the turnover into a passing TD.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Panthers led, 24-0, at halftime. They were 3-for-3 on two-point conversions.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The second half began ominously for Gadsden as Capital's kickoff along the ground ricocheted off a Panthers player and was recovered by the Jaguars. However, the Panthers defense stepped up and stymied the Jaguars as two-way standout <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2108931' first='Deion' last='Torres']</strong> intercepted a pass in the left corner of the end zone.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Moments later, Torres caught a long pass to quickly move the ball into the red zone. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1790772' first='Armando' last='Ramirez']</strong> ran for the TD to make it 32-0.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When Capital scored on a TD pass for their lone score of the day, Gadsden responded quickly &nbsp;on Torres' long scoring run with 4:16 left in the third quarter to make it 40-8.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Less than a minute later, Gadsden recovered a Capital fumble and Ramirez soon sprinted into the end zone for a TD. The Panthers added another TD before the end of the third quarter to take a commanding 56-8 lead into the final frame.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When the Gadsden defense forced a Capital punt, the Panthers went for the jugular, completing a long TD pass from midfield to cement the mercy-rule win.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Gadsden (2-0) hosts Silver in one of the top games in the state for Week 3.
