The high school football season kicks off this week earlier than ever! That means this past weekend there was scrimmages across the state in preparation for the first week! Limited highlights and tape, but here is a look at a few that I saw!

QB [player_tooltip player_id='1893778' first='Braxton' last='Fausett'] (Harlem – 2028)

Fausett displayed a smooth delivery, mobility in and out of the pocket, along with quick decision making. The 6'1” QB throws well on the run squaring his body for throws on the money and has good arm strength.

QB [player_tooltip player_id='1854739' first='Jaren' last='Rebbe'] (Vandalia – 2029)

The 6'2” 2029 quarterback has good size and athleticism. Showed that off in a couple clips we saw including rolling out then punishing a defender running over them for a score. As a passer he has solid pocket presence and a quick release.

QB [player_tooltip player_id='2140413' first='Brody' last='Guthrie'] (Kaneland – 2028)

Evaded the rush, stepped up in pocket, and delivered a nice ball dropped in the bucket for a score while moving toward the line of scrimmage.

QB [player_tooltip player_id='2174903' first='Leo' last='Keaty'] (Mt. Carmel – 2029)

Like the mobility and arm strength here. Good zip on his passes down the field while showcasing he can throw it on the run. The pocket presence and feel for the position is there. Could be one to watch down the line!

RB Dylan Curtis (Sycamore – 2028)

The running back is compact, strong, quick and runs low to the ground. Tough to bring down with how strong he runs in his lower half.

RB [player_tooltip player_id='2176881' first='Kevin' last='Hunter'] III (Marist – 2029)

Explosive running back that ripped off a 70+ yard TD in a scrimmage against the freshman team. Nice vision in the hole, sudden cuts, and speed in the open field leaving defenders in dust.

WR [player_tooltip player_id='2225971' first='Isaiah' last='Massey'] (Glenwood – 2027)

Gets off the line of scrimmage with ease winning with his quickness. Like how he sets up defensive backs and can shake them on the routes. Clean catches with his hands showing a natural feel for bringing the ball in. Willing to go over the middle to move the chains making catches in tight spaces. Does a nice job of creating separation from the defensive back on an array of routes.

WR [player_tooltip player_id='2140290' first='Bentley' last='Nicklin'] (Breese Mater Dei – 2028)

Nicklin is a productive 6'0” wide receiver in the junior class. Sent us a clip where he took a short route, broke multiple tackles, powered over a defender, and housed it.

OL/DL Gael Mukambu (Champaign Centennial)

Mukambu goes 6'2” and 225 pounds playing up front on both sides of the line of scrimmage. In their scrimmage he had 2 TFL, a QB hurry, and several pancakes.Plays with speed and leverage as a defensive tackle who pushes the pocket and gets up the field. Powerful with his hands getting pressure.

DT Brody Busch (Triad – 2028)

The metro east defensive tackle has nice movement skills and athleticism on the interior of the defensive line. Moves well to put himself in position to make the tackle in the run game.

LB Raymond Olejniczak-LeRoy (St. Patrick – 2028)

Middle linebacker that does a nice job of diagnosing plays in the run game and getting to his guy. Athletic running in space in both coverage and chasing after ball carrier.

DB [player_tooltip player_id='2140429' first='Cortlen' last='Blake'] (Champaign Centennial – 2028)

The corner has nice technique making plays on the ball with it in the air. Flies around showcasing his athleticism and ball skills.
