Garretson vs Baltic: Week 1 Game Review

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the first week of the high school football season in South Dakota, the Garretson Blue Dragons hosted the Baltic Bulldogs in an eventful game including a lengthy weather delay. Garretson came out on top 35-6 in the end with plenty of standout performances on both sides. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Knocking Off The Rust</h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The beginning of the game saw both teams knock of the rust a bit with the ball going back and forth in a turnover filled 1st quarter. Right before halftime, Garretson opened the scoring by pouncing on a fumble coughed up by the Bulldogs in their own end zone. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Big Play Blue Dragons </h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After the weather delay, it was all Blue Dragons. Early in the 3rd quarter, Garretson's Senior Running Back <a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/collin-olson/">[player_tooltip player_id='1622030' first='Collin' last='Olson']</a> went untouched on a 20 yard run to put the Blue Dragons up two scores. Garretson's sibling connection of Senior Quarterback <a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/chase-arend/">[player_tooltip player_id='2172134' first='Chase' last='Arend']</a> and Junior Wide Receiver <a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/jackson-arend/">[player_tooltip player_id='2105200' first='Jackson' last='Arend']</a> would then connect on a 27 yard go route, with Chase adding the two point conversion on a Quarterback keeper up the middle. They would add another score on a long, run-heavy drive led by Senior Right Guard Tanner Baatz and finished off by Sophomore Running Back <a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/gavin-coburn/">Gavin Goburn</a> on a short touchdown run to go up four scores.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Baltic would grab a little bit of the momentum in the 4th quarter when Senior Running Back <a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/brechen-frederick/">[player_tooltip player_id='1622010' first='Brechen' last='Frederick']</a> capped off a brilliant individual run, breaking tackles and cutting back to score from behind mid field in his first game for the Bulldogs after coming over from Tri-Valley. That made it 28-6 in favor of the Blue Dragons.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Garretson would then punt on their next drive but would retake the momentum right back after a 3rd down play where Olson shot through the line and took the ball right out of the Bulldog Quarterback's hands during his wind up. Olson returned it for a touchdown, making it 35-6 and a big win for the Blue Dragons.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">What's Next?</h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Garretson will be on the road next week in a big game against Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan and Baltic will return home to play Sioux Falls Lutheran. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Be on the look for the top performers on each side of the ball, as there was plenty to talk about! </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
